Two homeless men were turned away from a Holiday Inn in Manchester in sub-zero -6C temperatures despite their booking already being paid for, and a homeless guy dying on the street the night before

The hotel in Manchester city centre refused to accommodate the men and staff members told them: “I know that you’re from the street and the hotel doesn’t allow it.”

Time to boycott these heartless people.

I guess once they get into a room, they could refuse to leave? Maybe that's the reason they don't allow it..

Quite sad though!

Read about this earlier and wtf. Thankfully it seems to be an isolated incident by a poorly trained employee, but still hard to read about.

I understand what you're saying but if the room had been paid for then they have no right to turn them away because of ehat they wear, what they look like and current position in life. To those hotel workers that sent them packing again (no pun intended) should be ashamed of themselves and hope you don't find yourself in that position in life also where you're lookijgmmng for somewhere warm whether ot's paid for you or not.

Neverwhere

Why did they see fit to video this, unless they anticipated being turned away?

But what a bunch of heartless bastards. I hope they lose a load of bookings on the strength of this.

Playing devil’s advocate, I imagine a hotel can turn away whoever they like as a business can choose who they serve or not, within the law.

Whether that’s right or wrong is a different question.

Not sure they can choose , remember the ruckus over the B&B and the Baker who refused to serve Gay men?

According to the article on the BBC web site “ The incident, which was filmed by a charity volunteer and shared on social media”, so it wasn’t filmed by the homeless people, but by representatives of the organisation that had paid for the accommodation. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqxy09yl7d9o.amp

That’s right these aren’t necessarily immigrants, but even if they are sheer humanity trumps any political agenda

That’s why I said within the law because some characteristics are legally protected like race, religion, sexuality etc.

But outside of that, a business can choose if they want to serve you or not.

Again, I’m not condoning anything. It was obviously heartless even if it was technically legal.

To be honest it's a sad situation when you can't show kindness to a fellow human being. Its a sad situation when you have to turn someone out into freezing conditions. But the receptionist was probably put in a difficult position. Whatever decision they made would have probably been the wrong decision. Letting them stay the manager may have gone spare and the receptionist could have got in trouble for making a decision that wasnt their grade to make. Damned if you don't damned if you do. Nothings easy or straightforward. Just how things are today I guess people are scared to lose their jobs.

They where allowed to go to there rooms later after the video according the same group that posted it, the hotel chain seen what damage would be done to the name and allowed them in.

I've just come out of a years worth of homelessness (not my own making either). Don't bother trying to figure it out, I was constantly gaslit despite everything and I'll never forget the same gatekeepers names that kept popping up denying me, it'll come around, I know it. Be kind to strangers, no matter their looks. The strongest spirits are always watching and remembering
