I love a good cup of tea but am failing to find tea with that good tea taste, not the bland tea around with no taste albeit like hot water and milk.

I don't like the woody over strong flavour but the teas of years ago that tasted like tea should be. The nearest I get to it is MandS. Rather than trawling the internet, I'd like to find a good local one.

Have had glengettie in the past. Yorkshire tea does nothing for me.

Interested in your tea suggestions.

Genuine answers please.

I like M&S blended black tea, but Sainsbury's Gold is OK too.

Pure Assam for a proper hit of really strong pure tea flavour though.

I find drinking the same brand lessens the enjoyment, familiarity and all that. I buy two different types, Twinings English Breakfast and Sainsbury’s Gold Label. Both in the tea caddy so I alternate.

I assume OP you're already using leaf tea in a pot or diffuser. If not, why not? Even standard supermarket tea tastes much better from leaf than bags.

One of the oddities about me is that I'm not a fan of tea. I will drink it but not fussed. Last year I had one cup of tea and that was in hospital. It was vile. True their coffee wasn't much better [I'm a coffee addict] but the food was quite good.

Big fans of Sri Lankan BOPF tea in our house. BOP is similar but you need to brew it for twice the time (coarser).

Similar to a good English breakfast tea, only better

Tea... I use Earl Grey, it has berkamond herb in it which has health benefits and for me tastes good too!

However, any tea has to be brewed correctly, temperature during brewing is essential to extract the correct elements into the brew... Pre heat the pot or cup, allow at least 4 - 5 minutes for the tea or tea bags to stew, agitate the brew gently, DO NOT squeeze the tanic acid out of tea bags, else you get a bitter brew, use boiling water, add a dash of milk if you like... and NO sugar, that stuff will destroy the taste of the tea! Simples eh!

I've tried loads of brands of tea, but I always go back to Yorkshire tea, the regular, not Gold. Brewed for a few mins with a dash of milk and no sugar, gives me the colour and flavour I like. Don't like Tetley and PG are shit since they took away the pyramid bags. I like Earl Grey too, and find Tesco finest better than Twinnings.

Before bed, I prepare the tray with a teapot, milk jug, cups, strainer, cozy and spoon. Fill the kettle so that the water breathes overnight and dispels chlorine.

Morning. Come down, a little water in teapot and microwave 1 minute to warm pot whilst kettle boiling.

Three heaped teaspoons into empty pot. Boiling water. Tea cosy on and take tray upstairs. After five minutes pour.

Just got to get the right tea leaves.

My go to is either loose Assam or Darjeeling, but a nice Smokey Lapsang Souchong is good too. No milk or sugar obviously, and there are some who say a second brew from the same leaves is a better flavour.

Can certainly recommend Ringtons. Based here in the North East they have a proud tradition of delivering tea to the door. Once a month a good looking guy calls & supplies my beverage requirements. Good tea too. They supply samples to help you decide.

You won't regret it. Just seems to have a better flavour than bags, even the same brand.

What might contribute is we have one of those glass teapots with a filter basket inside and a very small spout, so it takes several seconds to pour a decent sized mug from it but that aeration of the tea stream is supposed to improve its flavour too.

Barry's tea is the only tea people should drink.

It's Irish so tastes so much better than anything the UK can produce.

Not so easy to get in England although it's absolutely ubiquitous in Ireland, and I agree it's the bollocks.
