I dont rhink he's in control at all. Somebody pulls his strings and he just says stuff depending on which way the wind blows. Aside from it not being in the manifesto, digital id was never a sensible if you belive you live in a democratic and free country.

Its hugely expensive, unpopular and effectively already in place.

Govt and govt agencies have all the info they need.

Driving licencing, NHS, DWP, Councils, even loyalty cards have or can get all info about you.

This includes your banking.

Having all that info collected into one place for lots of organisations and even individuals to access, do you think that data would be safe ?

The DWP and others now have secret access to your bank statements.

You dont need to be on benefits for this to happen.

"... The DWP and others now have secret access to your bank statements.

It's not quite that simple - there has to be a justified reason for them to ask the banks for information, and the banks can only supply limited information (according to a mate who works for a bank).

Not defending the government at all but sometimes it pays to look a little further than a clickbait headline on social media.

This is not social media click bait its fact, and i have first hand experience of it

Almost 9 million claimant bank accounts to be put under continuous surveillance.

Published: 30 November 2023

The DWP is to begin continuous surveillance of the bank accounts of all pension credit, universal credit and employment and support allowance claimants using powers under a bill currently going through Parliament. The department have said that they intend to use their new power to force any third party to pass on data to them more widely in the future.

The new Public Authorities (Fraud, Error and Recovery) Act—nicknamed the FEAR Act—quietly expanded government surveillance powers to an unprecedented level. While sold as a tool to combat benefit fraud, the Act gives authorities sweeping access to financial records, digital transactions, and online behaviour.

Under this act it is illegal for the banks to inform You that authorities ( and theres quite a list of them) is seeing your bank records.

I have never claimed any benefits so am not versed on the finer workings of such claims, however even I know that you have to declare savings and investments when making a claim for most of the different benefits on offer. So im no fan of this government but to me it's absolutly right that if people are to receive the publics money in the form of benefits then there has to be 100% transparency with regards to their circumstances including their bank accounts. Sound sensible governance me thinks.

If you are claiming benefits or trying to commit fraud (eg underpaying tax etc) by saying you have less money than you actually do, then you must be pretty stupid to ‘hide’ it in a bank, so you deserve to get caught.

Must be very embarrassing for the Labour spokesmen who have to go out and defend/justify these hairbrained policy announcements on MSM ... Only for them to be shelved/watered-down before they actually come into effect.

And then have to do the media rounds all over again, only to defend/justify the Climbdown/U-Turn.

Makes them look like right mugs.

Yes the DWP wants to catch benefits cheats.

But a major problem is with tax thresholds being frozen for so long, poor people on li.ited fixed incomes or little side hustles like ebay etc are being brought into the tax net.

Anysign of regular payments etc will draw attention, even if you are not on benefits.

The visibility of your bank payments ie subscriptions to presure groups, news outlets charities etc could at some time cause issues.

Bispham, Blackpool.

The digital ID is already being introduced by the back door.

There is the new GOV. UK ONE LOGIN app which is currently being used for things like on line change of address on driving licence etc which they say is to prove your ID which involves a face recognition scan.

They state that it has limited use at the moment in it's beta version but in the future it will be your main access to Customs and Revenue and DWP matters etc.

You may well be right, certain elements of the general public (including MP's) are not adverse to robbing the public purse! The contention is that the rest of us just don't trust UK governments to use these powers without abusing them!

The digital I.D. Will be now done in stages, as they have four years to achieve this, but will not be called "Digital I.D.",but you will have to have a form of digital ID, to access NHS, and other services such as free prescriptions, free eye test, etc, etc.

Phoney Blair promised Brussels and WEF, he would "implement" this.

3 billion on exploration and consultants so far.

Evry time you change job , apply for work or loan, take a membership, change flat, are checked by police, some one some where, (usually USA and probably Larry Ellison's Oracle), will get paid .

Initial estimate, a pound a time.

Forever.

And if the data is wrong, (like when the in initially digitised fingerprints, or remember Horizon scandal? )

Good luck with redress. You will be an acceptable error rate with zero recourse to compensation.

Ask your MP what the acceptable error rate is?

They have not disclosed one. And there is no way, on current trends, for govt to ever rescind the contract.

And for what benefit?

A temporary respite, I fear. Larry Ellison's Oracle has been a major donor to the Tony Blair Institute (for Tony Blair) and Tony has several placemen inside government. Blair has always supported the monetisation of citizens' data, and the TBI is little more than a sales and propaganda hub for globalist businesses. Blair's a floater. He'll be back.

Nine jobs Nigel will support anything that gives him a kick back.

And immigrants are the only ones who won't have this, or have to pay for it.

Ellison (who's company oracle is in prime position to benefit from these contracts) gave 275 million to the Tony Blaire institute.

(Blaire, who initially said digital Id was an abomination and is now it's chief cheer leader.)
