Robert Jenrick Banished to Reform

Waterlooville

The Torry party finally managed to pick a traitor and Banish him.

He joins other ex-conservative ministers who said they were faithfuls but they soon turned into traitors.

So vote for Reform or it Torry 2.0

It's reported that he "left a speech lying around" that indicated a possibility that he might defect.

Yeah, right. Or he leaked it to signal a leadership bid, or to angle for a promotion, but Bad Enoch got hold of it and she squashed him.

Surely you mean Torrey as in Torrey Canyon? Under Captain Farage's it will hopefully flounder on some rocks but sadly spill snake-oil everywhere.

All the rats jumping ship just want their new Maggie or Boris. They're obsessed with one-leader politics and don't understand that one person can't run a government or country.

Sadly they won't find it with Farage because he makes even Johnson look vaguely competent, but it's fun watching the Tory party implode anyway.

Was he hoping history would repeat itself? After all Liz Truss beat Rishi Sunak for the leadership but after a few weeks she was compelled to stand down and Rishi still got the 'crown' he coveted. Must admit I was surprised he not only lost the leadership contest but by quite a margin. Was he hoping that Kemi would be a total disaster and he was waiting in the wings to take over? Instead she has proved herself quite capable even if she has got a long way to go.

Where will he go now? With so few MPs every Reform MP is a 'top dog'. A big fish in a small pond. Perhaps he is hoping to topple Farage and take over.

I reckon he just sees the way the wind is blowing, Reform are doing way better in the polls than the Tories, if that continues to the next election there will be many more Reform MPs than Tories - so he's basically looking after his own interests as people will vote for the party and not the person

=======================================

"Honest Bob" Jenrick is so obviously motivated entirely by self-interest, devoid of even the slightest notion of loyalty, and so blatantly corrupt, that he may as well have a "FOR SALE" notice hanging round his neck. The Richard Desmond incident showed that beyond all doubt.

If he's hoping for a job in Farage's proposed "cabinet", he's already buggered up his chance by joining without having made a deal in advance. And it's hard to see how he could displace Farage, when Reform is a limited company under Farage's control. That is surely why it was set up that way.

He doesn’t need to watch his back. He owns the shares in Reform UK Ltd. Any unrest in the ranks will result in the dissident being kicked out. As an ex Tory himself Nigel knows how slippery they can be and probably doesn’t trust any of them with a milkshake.

Reform was the Brexit Party also headed by Farage, 6 or 7 years ago. Prior to that there was UKIP from its foundation in the early 1990s. [ A tiny slither of UKIP still remains] So any member of Reform under 40/45 may not have been a member of any party before.

"There should be an immediate by-election if any MP changes Party ...."

As much as I agree with the sentiment.

When an MP is elected they may or may not have a party affiliation. However, you elect the individual not the party. MP’s represent their constituents as their first principle. Or at least should. Sometimes that means going against the party whip.

If an MP for whatever reason be it principle or personal ambition chooses to vote against or even leave the party. That is their right. We don’t have a presidential system in the UK. We elect MP’s who elect their own Prime Minister. The various parties may have leadership rules but thats a different matter.

I have in the past have had an MP who defected to another party and also another who lost the whip and had to be an independent. Both of them lost their seats at the next general election.

One went to a neighbouring constituency and lost. The other stood down. Neither was a great loss.

There was a Tory in the past (Douglas Carswell) who had the gumption to stand down and seek reelection and did in 2014. Politicly I would never align myself with him but I had a lot of respect for him.

I’m afraid the good folks of Newark are stuck with Jenrick

Interesting situation regarding Jenrick. Yes I am totally disgusted with him. He had the Conservative Party whip withdrawn rather than he resigned it. So if that had just been the case and he sat as an independent then no need whatsoever to resign his seat and seek re-election. However he has now joined a party which the Newark constituents did not vote for so technically he should stand down.

I quite like Jenerick but I do think there should be a bi election as he’s moved parties as he was voted as a conservative not reform but it’s not in the rule book

Strange how Fagash stopped bleating about calling by-elections when his company began benefiting from defections.

Toad faced hypocrite.

With Jenrick getting the attention the other defector ( Andrew Rossindell) goes slightly under the radar ,, for those thinking Farage & co are anti establishment , Rossindell is the Tory who said the £20 payment to those on universal credit should be stopped because they don't need it and said MPs should be allowed 2nd jobs because their life style may change if they were to lose their 2nd income
