"Neither probably. But more constructively where do you suggest they have an embassy? "

They apparently have "a few" offices within London an one of the arguments for the new embassy is that they would be situated in one place.

Inclined to agree. Xi may not be very nice, but he is (a) sane and (b) clever.

We really need to increase our scrutiny of the US Embassy - recently purpose built on a new site, just like the Chinese proposal.

Indeed, someone apparently fails to grasp the concept of a forum, the colourful lingo used in his response, would seem to highlight an unfortunate lack of both basic good manners and intelligence.

I fully agree with you, or better still expel the yanks and tell them to come back when they have a felon free head of state. The American’s won’t admit our x cons so why are we allowing this convict to come here when it pleases him? This gangster is openly murdering his own citizens on the streets and thinks his lies will fool the world into ignoring what is clear from the tapes.

One big embassy, or lots of little ‘offices’, I don’t really see as one option being any better or worse than the other.

Bunches of opposition MPs calling it out as an opportunity for spying etc are just jumping on a scaremongering bandwagon. Do they imagine for one second that this isn’t already happening.

As for a few cables running under the new embassy making it easier to disrupt our financial institutions, surely it’s up to our government and these institutions to make sure this doesn’t happen, wherever another country’s embassy might be, as they are always under the threat of some kind of attack

"The drawings for the embassy show that a single concealed chamber will sit directly alongside fibre-optic cables transmitting financial data to the City of London, as well as email and messaging traffic for millions of internet users.

The same hidden room is fitted with hot-air extraction systems, possibly suggesting the installation of heat-generating equipment such as advanced computers used for espionage. The plans also show that China intends to demolish and rebuild the outer basement wall of the chamber, directly beside the fibre-optic cables."

I’m 100% sure Starmer didn’t just look at some building plans and thought yeah that will do.

MI5 GCHQ MI6 would have all been involved in the planning approval isn’t it better to have it all in one place rather than scattered in probably antiquated offices around London

Where are you getting anti antisemitism from. I pointed out that that Israel has murdered in the region of 100,000 mostly women and children and starved the entire population of Palestin. I am sure most civilised people agree that that is not acceptable. When a 3yo child is blown to bits, do I care if the person who committed that crime is a Baptist a Catholic or any other religion? If that’s how your mind works then carry on with that nonsense if it amuses you. But have a care how you throw about these silly accusations.

It’s presumably not too difficult to reroute the fibre optic cables. GCHQ will be all over that. Starmer is not my favourite person but he knows that we’re hooked on the cheap tut we import from China. The Great British public would be apoplectic if they couldn’t buy their cheap crap in Home Bargains and B&M, only to take it to the tip in six weeks time. Where they put the embassy is really irrelevant. Any country worth its intelligence salt can spy from a caravan park. Fibre optics, meh. Less readable from outside the cable than copper, complicated to break into, and in any case will be rerouted. Fuss about nothing.

And, to reiterate this, the good ol' USA ,not too fussed about pissing on its former allies these days, also has a beautiful big re-sited spyopolis in London. Are we worried? Given Crump's cosy relationship with Putin, maybe we should be.

"Was everyone moaning this much when Boris sold the Royal Mint to China?

No!! Because this is utter nonsense!!

The Royal Mint wasn't sold to China. It's owned by HM Treasury as The Royal Mint Trading Fund, so part of the UK Government - effectively owned by the population!! "

Ok, it would seem I have to be more accurate

Royal Mint Court. The building which was the production site for the Royal mint coins, is now owned by China and is the proposed site for the new embassy.

Happy to clear that up for you.

Jeez.

Yes indeed, 'More accurate' as opposed to spreading complete fabricated and unsubstantiated, misinformation, '_espectdue'!

The Royal Mint building in London ceased minting coins over 50 years ago - in 1975! It subsequently became part of the portfolio of the London-based property investment companies Delancey and LRC, who sold it eight years ago to the PRC - entirely unrelated to Boris Johnson's tenure as PM as you previously claimed!

Accuracy is indeed paramount! I suggest next time you attempt to concoct a political critique, a bit of fact-checking beforehand would prevent such unfortunate embarrassing self-parody!

If you really need me to break it down for you, yes I was wrong to say he sold it, but the council and local people and many from both parties were against the sale, but Johnson gave the go ahead for them to use the building.

Boris Johnson was Foreign Secretary in 2018 when the PRC bought the site, and he indeed approved the embassy plans - a subsequent parliamentary investigation found no breach of the Ministerial Code. That's the extent of his involvement. No evidence suggests he 'gave the go-ahead' for the sale itself by Delancey and LRC to the PRC. Hope that sufficiently clarifies the situation without further ado.

Mr Starmer isnt very popular here in the uk even amongst his own party

A leadership challenge is on the horizon as the rest of his party know he's got no chance at the next general election

And the tories havent got a cat in hells chance with their current leader or anyone else for that matter and the country is still reeling from their last 20 year reign of misery, that forced the country out of sheer desperation to vote for starmer just for a change of regime and that backfired on those that voted labour big time

Because, in the long run, he will end up far wealthier and gain much greater status by making U-turns in parliament and cozying up to globalists and other megalomaniacs.

Politics was his passport to success ... The measure of that success isn't how effective he is at improving the lives of British people .... But how high he can climb and burnish his credentials.

Well, of course, '_espectdue', you are not seeing the full panorama - with your unfortunate tunnel vision. So perhaps it's easier for you to stick with the comfy familiarity of Starmerite narratives, rather than confront the rather more complex reality of the UK's heavy challenges. Carry on regardless, but maybe reflect on whether engaging with fellow users via pm's in such a white-feathered manner is entirely helpful?

Have a fulfilling weekend, but certainly wrap up well if venturing out!

Yes, of course I agree that differing and spectral views are a natural part of complex human nature, and respecting those differences is key, even though the twain shall n'er meet.

Regarding the PM issue, it seems we've both expressed our points and I'm content to let the matter settle without further ado, as I would hope that you feel likewise.
