Ive got to say, I thought it was rubbish to be honest...It could of been so good.. it had great potential.. I know alexander is a excellent actor, but that could of been anyone. I dont think its one of his best roles to be honest. My opinion

I am NOT in

Mixed feelings about the need and wider implications of the film.

Homosexual characters have historically been portrayed in a poor light, perverted, untrustworthy, overly camp, the villain etc

There isn’t widespread portrayal of homosexuals in positive roles, until then the opportunity for those that consider it not 'normal' to stereotype should be avoided, in my opinion.

--------------------

The acting by Harry Melling as Colin had depth and displayed emotion, the monosyllabic role of Ray didn't provide much opportunity other than eye candy.

The message I got was that their Dom/sub roles were due to guilt about homosexuality so it is hidden in emotional and physical punishment roleplay.

Despite being 'out' Colin's subconcious guilt over his sexuality makes him consider himself unworthy, which is why he took to the sub role so well. He was fighting against that guilt, craved acceptance and emotional attachment, which is why he said he could be happier and wanted "a day off" .

Ray's guilt about his sexuality manifests in him withholding emotion and only engaging in sex as discipline so as to have power over it, running away in fear when he developed emotional attachment to the relationship.

Manchester

I watched it when it was out in cinemas. Seeing a huge pierced cock on screen was fun 🤪

We even went dressed in biker gear! 😈
