It's about time these religious figures are taken out the House of Lords, they really have no part in modern life

Exactly, it's claimed they represent the 'moral views' of their religion and its followers. Not all of us follow or agree with religion.

Always amazed they weren't culled from the House of Lords when the hereditary peers lost their seats and the HoL ceased to be the supreme court. I've nothing against the Church of England and quite happy about it being the state church. I also wish the new Archbishop well and hope she can reverse the church's decline and makes a better job than her awful predecessor. However church and politics should remain separate.

One may not be “religious” but one should hold a set of moral values nonetheless.

I'm not religious, but the clergy have as much right to be represented in the Lords as

(a) Party donors

(b) Incompetent politicians kicked upstairs

(c) People who have never done a real job, and never will.

(d) People who have made a pile and gained huge influence already, rewarded for doing their sinecure job.

(e) People you'd cross the street to avoid, rewarded for failure.

(f) The odd criminal.

If the Church wishes to be a part of the legislation process, it should field candidates like any other political group

That's true, however we often hear talk of 'Christian values' as if they're superior in some way.

Back to the archbish, she has exactly the sort of hairstyle you would expect a female archbishop to have.

The Lords aren't elected, and some are hereditary.

Isn't Royston Vasey the birth name of the grossly unfunny Roy Chubby Brown? I would say Dame Sarah Mullaly is far better looking and has far more decorum than that creature.

Neverwhere

Time to ditch the CofE and return to Rome.

Remember the only reason we have the CofE is due to the corrupt Henry VIII wanting to annul his marriage to Katherine of Aragon so that he could marry Anne Boleyn. That was followed by the dissolution of the monasteries where he basically took all the church's assets and used them for his own purposes.

It was immorality of breathtaking proportions.

And now the CofE is disintegrating and seems irrelevant in a multi-cultural and largely secular world.

I totally agree.

And your (a) to (f) is why I’d actually prefer more clergy and indeed more hereditaries than any of the (a) to (f)s! Never give a title to anyone who wants it.

A] Religion predates poverty by some considerable period in the Neolithic.

B] I’m always fascinated by gay and bi people who are keen to tell other people how to think and behave. They never seem to like it the other way round…

C] I’ve made appointments for you to visit the two mosques in Chesterfield to tell them you’re ditching their religion. I’m sure it will all go fine.

When I read it back after posting it I realised but thought better of deleting it and rewriting it. However I did wonder how long it would take before soneone asked this and it was, to be fair, a bit longer than I thought. Invented is obvioulsy what it should say, however 'fat finger' syndrome often wins the day. Hope thats answered your question.

Any argument with you is pretty futile, what I wrote is my opinion, and a few typos are almost expected these days. Oh, by the way, there are a good few more mosques in chesterfield than the two you claim to have contacted.

Hear, hear.

History would've been rather different had Henry just waited and married someone once Catherine died.
