I agree, but it’s a very fine line that you walk with China. On one hand they are an important trading partner, on the other I don’t trust them and suspect that they have ulterior motives around espionage etc. They will soon have a shiny new embassy in London to facilitate their shenanigans.

However Andrew MB isn’t involved so every cloud and all that!

Zero (except I’m never gonna get these 47 seconds back). Just for balance, Truss, Sunak, Johnson - they all went on foreign ‘holidays’ to drum up trade etc.

B) how many foreign holidays has he had?

C) how many have Truss, Sunak and Johnson had each?

Maybe if you could provide some evidence, the good men of the forum might consider taking you seriously.

Xi is an honest broker compared to Trump, and China's likely to buy whatever we can sell it (including high-quality education) without fucking around with idiotic USA-style tariffs. If we're going to grow our aerospace - and I hope we are - we need raw materials which China can provide.

Uighurs &c? Sure. But we can't begin to influence China without trade leverage. We simply can't pretend China doesn't exist. And as Minneapolis has shown, the fat orange bastard is more than up for a spot of oppression himself.

It’s all well and good saying that you don’t like him ‘supporting’ China, but they have fingers in so many pies these days that almost everything you buy, no matter where it’s made, even in the UK, will in some way be supporting China. They are truly a global superpower especially when it comes to trade. So unless you are never going to buy anything else in your life, you will be supporting this evil regime.

There have been calls on FG forums for us all to stop buying goods from the USA, due to to the comments and actions of thier president.

Perhaps he's going to pick up some tips about manufacturing quality goods at prices that mean export success (something that China has got very good at lately in all sorts of fields: the days of Chinese products being cheap knock-off crap are long gone).

I mean if Farage or the Tories could bottle some of that, they'd be cock-a-hoop and praising British resource and ingenuity to the rafters.

The murderously incompetent Johnson was always bunking off on genuine holidays, regardless of prevailing political circumstances, but did so with apparent impunity until the right wing media fell out of love with first him and then what's left of his party.

This isn't a holiday, it's a trade mission with some 60 business leaders accompanying the PM, collectively batting for the UK with the world's second largest economy. It would be perfectly reasonable to cast your judgement in the light of what is achieved but hey, this is 2025 and social media, what the fuck do facts have to do with anything?

The level of political awareness amongst some here, and their genuinely puerile contributions to political debate, is a matter of utter dismay.

No, that is incorrect. The state will take some of that money, it's called Tax.

It is then used to fund the NHS, Welfare, Education and many other institutions that allow us all to live in a civilised society.

"He seems to be spending more holidays abroad than any PM I have ever known "

I'm certainly no fan of Starmer or his brand of politics, but let's give credit where it's due - he's not on a jolly or foreign holiday abroad.

The UK's trade with China is heavily imbalanced, with £57 billion in imports from China in 2024, compared to just £21.1 billion in exports. That means for every £1 we sell to China, we're importing £2.70 worth of goods. Boosting UK exports to China could help address this deficit. While Starmer's got plenty of critics, let's see if he and his team can make some headway on this crucial trade visit.

I'm certainly no fan of Starmer or his brand of politics, but let's give credit where it's due - he's not on a jolly or foreign holiday abroad.

So please enlighten us all what strategies Reform or other policies the Tories had to effectively do this?

Braverman was actually quoted as saying the way to seek asylum in this country was to come in on a boat.

It’s not about immigration that’s a way to deflect away from the super rich and tax avoidance and inequality in wealth which is in this country.

The PM and 60 delegates. No doubt on the taxpayers coffers fact finding , yes to see just how there businesses are doing with their manufacturing moved from the Uk to China under a communist regime just what the Labour Party would love .

Just maybe they could bring manufacturing back to the Uk, giving employment to the masses that wish it migrated to the Uk. The Uk on a whole had everything that China now has from ship building to wholesale manufacturing, heavy and light engineering all of which the learned from the UK , the only thing we produce now is naff politicians with naff ideology’s on how to screw the British people even harder . So that shareholders and stockholders can produce even more profits putting absolutely zero back into the UK .

Doubt there would be a landslide for Reform. They might possible emerge as the largest party in a hung parliament but would anyone want to work with them? They may lead in opinion polls but usually only on 31% or down as low as 24%.

Try listening to what the actual legislation is rather than the silly headlines.

This is the first step to opening up legislation that will give British troops the ability to claim for things they haven't been able too.

A totally valid viewpoint.

It's working for you.

If you saw the sector I work in, then the outlook is bleak.

Staff costs on the rise, national insurance tax beginning to hit, energy costs are some of the highest in the G7/Europe.

When we hear about the pub sector it's a similar story.

No wonder they banned Labour MPs.

Maybe it's a polarised view. Winners and losers.

Once again, those two things are very separate examples ... Different people, different time .... Different reasons for the outcomes.

Starmer's China visit is to supposedly boost the UK's trade with China. Currently, for every £1 of UK exports to China, we import £2.71 worth of Chinese goods, highlighting a significant trade deficit that needs addressing.

But now, according to Starmer, Cambridge based multinational AstraZeneca's £15 billion investment in China is expected to support thousands of UK jobs, but isn't it likely that China's economy will benefit more?

Given the huge scale of the investment in China, surely the UK economy would see far greater benefits if the £15 billion was invested directly here in the UK than in the Chinese economy?

Starmer of course, is attempting to pass it off as a victory for the UK!!

A terrible misunderstanding ... He was merely peering under each stall in search of a ten-pence piece which had inadvertently fallen through a hole in his trouser pocket and rolled along the floor .... As he was adjusting his belt and tucking his shirt-tails into the waistband of his trousers .... Which had come fully undone in the course of exposing his penis in anticipation of relieving his bladder.... and nothing else!

"Starmer's China visit is to supposedly boost the UK's trade with China.

You don't want new jobs?

The government are investing in new jobs here too.

Both things can be done at once. "

Well, yes of course we want new job opportunities and creating jobs is a win, but with the UK's ailing economy struggling, doesn't it make more sense to prioritise job creation here?

Investing the £15 billion in the UK would boost our economy directly, create much-needed opportunities, and put more disposable income into local pockets. China's gain is our loss, given the trade deficit and economic pressures we face, yet China already has a healthy economy, so doesn't need any extra assistance from the UK.
