Hoping one day I can be but must be great to have your health and be retired, full or semi to have more time for fun here...

I'm looking forward to that day xx

What will you do when you get retired? Any good plans?

I retired when I was 50. Big mistake! You need to retire TO something. When I finished work, the first six months was a holiday. Got all those little jobs done; then got bored. Started a business, and then another one . . .

Being retired is great every day is Saturday!!

Anywhere between 18 months up to 5 years. Not ready to retire yet but after 18 months I'll see how I feel and take it year by year. That's my plan.

Merseyside area

Retired at 55 luckily with a reasonable works pension a lump sum and mortgage done.

Lump sum went on holidays and house and was great in summer, hitting the beach, out on bike, but got boring as fuck in winter. Started doing voluntary work a million miles away from previous role. Asked to go paid part time 2/3 days a week, I said yes. No moaning staff team to manage no big budget to maintain, just easygoing routine and fun, get out and about. Stops the missus glaring at me if I've been to work too. Breaks up the weeks nicely, keep it to 2 days in summer so still time for other fun, if I can get it. I realise I've been lucky though, as other friends have found it tough.

I retired just before my 55th Birthday, early retirement was due to health reasons but I am on the mend now. I have no intention of looking for work though. I have a fairly good pension, savings in the bank. Currently in the process of selling my property in Essex and buying a small bungalow in Lancashire. Once I have moved I will find something to fill my time, it won't be paid or voluntary employment though xx

So great to see you all happy with it. Working 35 years. I've still got a few years to go but sounds really promising.

Definitely

Got a few jobs lined up after

Some fun in between odd jobs and volunteering hopefully too

Plus great to have time for more fun here

In a world of my own

I’m retiring from employment at the end of February 26, after working over 42 years at my present employer and 6 years with a previous job.

However I’m not retiring from life!

After a few weeks to settle into a new phase of life, I’m going to do three to two days a week at a charity cardio gym locally, combining volunteering there and my fitness regime exercises.

Other days will combine jobs at home, days out going to places I’ve always wanted to visit too.

My present employer also wants me to return to do one day a week during the summer busy period to help out!

Semi-retired last year. Work on average 3 or 4 hours a day m-f, pays enough that i don't need to touch my private pension. I do a lot of voluntary work and have never been busier. I'll continue doing this for as long as i can.

I'm 60 this year and ready now tbh!

Problem is I lose alot of pension pot on the gov alpha pension if Iretire early so I'm a bit tied.

Mortgage free, but I want a comfy retirement and at this stage I would not be able to have the retirement I want

I have been retired a couple of years and it is the best decision I ever made.

Stressful job was killing me, but it did pay well so was able to finish well early.

Spend summer in the uk, but try to get away for most of the winter months. Mainly southern Europe but it suits me.

My advice to anyone is finish as soon as you can afford it. Don’t get trapped by your salary, it’s just a drug your employer supplies to keep you hanging on. Then it’s too late.

Really appreciate it. Just not sure if I can. I definitely don't have a lavish lifestyle but want enough to travel once a year, get out to horny meets and see friends more often too. Not easy planning with costs rising.

Inspired to keep going reading the above xxx

North London (outer)

I've retired a couple of times, the first time was for a month, as planned, then I went back doing similar work for another few years.

Even though I'm kind of properly retired I still work a couple of days a week here and then in a totally different field which really stretches the mind, and is extremely entertaining and fun. I also spend 3 or 4 days a week in the gym and playing other sport.

That sounds really good. Glad to hear your health is improving, and it’s great you’re in a comfortable position. Best of luck with the move to Lancashire — hope you really enjoy this next chapter.

Keep trying to retire but the company keep asking me back as they are unable to find a suitable replacement. Now on a Zero hours contract, which suits me well. All the holidays when I want. Work when I want to and holiday pay as well. Win win all round. Plenty of flexibility to have fun as the wife never knows where I am.!!

Retire, but don't retire, just adopt a different life style to stay active.

I sold my business when I was 64, landlord wanted another 5 year lease.

Started another business with daughter and now work about 3 days a week.

Keeps me mentally active as well as adding to my meagre pension. Also I'm contributing through my tax to all those on bennies, doing nothing and our boat friends.

Retired at 60 and loving it. Always busy, lots of hobbies and interests. In winter, day trips to various places and in summer I regularly go camping midweek as I only see my gf weekends.

She knows all about me and that I’m on here so that’s good too plus I can dress how I want when I want, which is most days.

If you afford to retire, do it. Get the mist out of life while you can. I went part time at 60, retired at 62, within in weeks joined this site, and started meeting men. Never regretted it for one minute. It's useful to have a good social life and interesting hobbies as well.

You need to have a sense of purpose when you get up in the morning , so hobbies (classic motorcycles for me) are very important.

I retired 3 years ago when I was 60, and it was great to begin with.

However, I recently started working again, just 16 hours per week. It’s given me a new social life, keeps me active and has got me through the last couple of winters without getting bored.

Work is fine, especially when you are no longer chasing the dollar.
