"I was reading an interesting article recently about London gay venues that are no sadly, no longer… The Coleherne in Earle’s Court / West Brompton for example. It sounded incredible from what I read about it back in the day. I’d love to hear your memories of other gay London venues that are now no longer here… " If that pool table could talk.

Besides the Coleherne, others that I remember from back in the 80’s include The Queens Head in Tryon Street Chelsea, The Salisbury (in the film Victim), Copa’s, Harpoon Louis, and The Black Cap to name a few.

"Brownies Sauna in Streatham - party nights used to be a lot of fun. Planets on Piccadilly- went straight and went bankrupt. Moving out of London there was The Noah's Ark in Windsor The Greyhound in Guildford. The Cellar (or Ralph’s) a private party in Farnham, Ralph dug out the basement footprint of the house and built his own disco - every 2 weeks alternate Fridays and Saturdays." I used to work behind the bar for Ralph. Great times. I hooe the place is still standing wtyh all those excavations. Another pub was The Croydon in err Croydon!

That was when the entrance was on the right hand side of the house, before he finished digging out on the other side by his decks. Then the entrance was moved to the left hand side of the house.

The Philbeach was great - had many a horny night there especially after the bar in the basement closed. Just leave your door on the latch and was always guaranteed some fun

"What was the name of the sauna, chariots possibly? Had an indoor pool, used to enjoy swimming naked there. Is that still going?" Think you mean Chariots in Shoreditch. God the fun I had there. Was amazing place with some lovely cocks and bums. Closed a number of years ago and think a hotel was going to be built in its place. Happy, fun times

"In the 70s I visited a gay strip club in a basement in Soho, can’t remember what it was called. Black walls, ceiling and carpet, very dark, small stage with naked men dancing about, men in the audience with coats bouncing up and down on their laps and a slippery floor! " There were a couple I went to one in Berwick St, and a sexy underwear shop where the cute shop manager sucked my cock a few times, this was early 80s

"It’s a shame all these places have closed You would have thought that demand is still there Times have changed I guess " I think in London in particular a lot of the long time gay pubs ended up being sold off for the land value to have houses built. In the country more a case of moving trade, or change of ownership. Also remember the rate that pubs have been closing and being sold off.

"The Block, East London. The first time I went, as a quite young man, I walked in and the barman handed me a herbal cigarette to have a few drags on, the bloke beside me asked "can I suck your cock?", and got down on his knees and unzipped me before my first pint was even poured. Then I headed upstairs and had to squeeze past a musclebear being punch-fucked over the bannister at the top of the stairs on my way into the 'main room'. Practically lived there from that point on. My favourite London venue. God I miss it. "
