The annoying 'Hi'

Why do people just message with 'hi'.

You send a reply back, then maybe get one back. Start to ask a few questions, then they read but don't reply. So annoying.

I'm fine with a quick hi or hey to open the conversation.

But yes it's mildly annoying when then just get half arsed one word responses thereafter.

Block, delete, move on.

What would be an appropriate and interesting opening line? It is a difficult line to tread, I don’t mind a short starter after all if I met someone out, the chances are thats how it would begin.

I don't mind the initial greeting, it's when they barely say anything else afterwards, as if they can't actually communicate.

What was the point of you messaging, if you can't get your words out?

I think it's cos there's so much rejection on apps of this type. Kinda like a wink, a growl or a poke...they're testing the waters.

I find so many fellas on here claim to want sex as depicted on TV and the like. Just log in and hookup; but they seem to be very much of the mindset are you marriage material and do they fancy 'fancy' you?!

Surely it should be any hole is a goal...?

Thats why gloryholes and darkrooms are so popular. Once a wet mouth or hole envelopes your dick you're in it for the ride.

Well it’s better than a wink I suppose…

I think it’s because there are so many guys on here that just read your message (or see it and don’t read it) and don’t bother replying.

I’ve written quite long first messages only for them to be ignored..

So now 9 times out of 10 my first message is hi or hello and if they are interested then will reply and let the conversation flow. If not you’ve not wasted minutes trying to think of something witty and interesting 😂

"Why do people just message with 'hi'.

If I have time and am feeling playful I respond to short messages with similar short replies to see how long it takes them to actually say something meaningful.

Most times however it is as you say, it ends with nothing. At this point I say “Thanks for the chat, we must do it again”

Then I either never hear from them again or I get a short excuse like “Sorry, work call” and then nothing or a friend request 🤣🤣🤣

I do stress in my profile that I wont answer to those sort of messages, so its a good indication to whether the person sending it has actually read the profile.

If the message says nothing more I generally delete it without opening it, and because you can see the first line in message preview, it makes it easy to filter.

I think some people just don’t know what to say, we cannot reasonably expect everyone to be able to write eloquent prose. Whether due to nervousness or being weak with the written word.

If I get a one word message I’ll respond with one word. If it does not progress from there I’ll stop. To be honest I’ve had some great meets that’s started with a one word message.

Well, this is a broad church, with all its pros and cons. Some people are new, inexperienced, insecure, do mot take rejection easily, whatever. It's an icebreaker of sorts. What do people expect? A whole biography or a chronicle of sexual wants, desires and exploits? In the first message? I don't like them either, sometimes I ignore if profile not attractive, sometimes I do reply along the same lines.

Now, nurse, where are my 💊💊?

If he has an interest in you, he will return to you; it does not matter whether it is a single word or twenty. There is no necessity to express everything you wish to say in your initial message. I fail to comprehend why anyone would be irritated by a simple 'hi.' There are countless reasons to be upset in this world, yet I have never encountered anyone who could be offended by a mere 'hi.' 😂😂😂😂😂

The initial message doesn’t bother me, it’s what comes after that matters. I like a chat but I don’t want an essay relay either… or a string of questions so that I have to bullet point my response instead of tying it all together.

There’s a bit at the end of my profile that says to tell me which of my pics is best so I know you’ve read it… I only get that in about 5% of messages.

Get inundated with the "hows you". But, that is still an improvement on the one I had before on Fabswingers where the gentleman's opening gambit was "come suck my meat now, fucking slut".

Suffice to say, one did not go suck his meat.

Firstly, I do not observe many individuals here claiming to receive 100 messages daily. I am referring to those who receive 3 to 4 messages each day, so why not discuss the norms? Many fall into this category. Secondly, I have replied to numerous 'hi' messages and have successfully met with some of those individuals. "Prefer it to ‘wot u into?’ As an opening comment"

If they ask ‘wot u into’ is it rude to reply ‘Guys who read my profile’ ?

Not very original is it? Ive got entire conversations that are "hi" followed by my "hello how are you?", no response and then days later satrt again with his "hi" message. Some have followed this format for months. Eventually I change tact and respond "what do you want?".

Better than 'my dearest (insert name). I hope this communication finds you well as I am persusing these ghastly message boards in search of some (insert sexual proclivity) and wonder if you might be too.'

At least that message has intent and demonstrates he has a functioning brain 😆

And a creative imagination by making up the word persusing....a cross between perusing and pursuing maybe?

Maybe it's a new word that has multiple meanings? 😆 Either way most people would see beyond a spelling mistake where spelling has become less and less important so long as the underlying message is understood.

Mansfieldish..

I don’t bother replying to 1 & 2 word messages…it is stated in my profile….but quite often the sender will send another slightly longer message….possibly after actually reading the profile.

I was once sent the one-word message, "Postcode?" I replied I liked to chat before sharing such info. Then he blocked me.

On another site people would just ask ASL. I can’t remember what it stood for. Maybe I’ve got those letters wrong but I always found it a rude Introduction

From the looks of your profile, everything on the planet annoys you

It used to go:-

Worst is "what you're looking for?

Clearly can't be bothered to read your profile which explains this.

This is a hook up site for sex. Not joining a pottery class while discussing the indepth breakdown of quantum physics and reciting Wordsworth
