Seriously though, I'll be giving it a watch. Even though I still doubt they'll convey the more surreal aspects of the book. That stuff can only exist inside the head of the reader.

It's adapted from an absolute classic novel that posits the theory that young non-adult humans will revert quickly to a completely feral state with a lack of rules, put as simply as possible. They try to create their own rules modelled on what they remember of prelapsarian life, but fail massively.

Male humans, it probably needs to be added. A bunch of girls would probably work out how to make things work. Boys just end up killing each other. It's a dark fucking book.

We did it for "O" Level. Wasn't a patch on "Clockwork Orange", though.

My main issue that a uncomplicated book is being dragged out to multiple hours when it could be done in one session

Somebody needs to try and take on Pincher Martin. Now that is a fever dream of a novel, probably totally unfilmable given how it's basically an inner monologue and does some absolutely stupid shit with the timeline.

Entirely false and proven by the Tongan castaways. The rapatious desires shown in the book are driven by capitalism

Surely there are some deserving books out there that justify a TV adaptation….there have been a few of LOTF….not sure I’m up for another one.

To be honest it reminds me too much of higher English at high school…..

On the BBC is it? Then it'll be 'heavily adapted for the modern audience' .... and serve as a timely reminder about the inate problems with male toxicity, white privilege, environmentalism .... and something vaguely relating to Andrew Tate.

Bispham, Blackpool.

It's a production rewritten and adapted by Jack Thorne who was responsible for the recent Netflix success Adolescence.

To be honest I think most adults in a zero law environment would also devolve into a completely feral state on the large part.

You'd have some trying to uphold a level of normality and the rest just going wild eating ice cream at 4am and and getting their Willie's out at unwelcome moments 🤣
