Starmer has no right to demand that he withdraws his comments and apologise.

Knowing next to nothing about football I had assumed this person was a high ranking civil servant. Burst out laughing when I discovered he was to do with a top ranking football club made up almost entirely of immigrant players. Well it is allegedly a free country and we do have freedom of speech--I think!

Being a bit of a cynic can't help but think this is the wondrous Sir Keir trying to cause a distraction from all his current woes.

I find Ratcliffe’s comments odd. He’s tax exile living Monaco so he’s an economic migrants, arguably doing exactly what he’s complaining about. Pot kettle black?

Net migration is down we’re loosing more people than coming in. We don’t have enough people to do jobs so we need migrant.

Finally how many migrants play for his football team?

Starmer would be better advised to just get on with his day job given his current self inflicted situation.

Certainly not, but since when have the statements of individuals troubled the government? Does this imply that in the future he will require every single person to apologise for their remarks, or will he solely focus on his party and the chaos they have created thus far?

I'm pretty sure he's called out people for being racist before like farage.

Wouldn't you expect your pm to speak up when a man worth billions talks bollox about our country and even says money is wasted on immigrants.

If radcliffe was that worried he could always pay tax here to help.

Farage also highlighted when a tory supporter gave them 20million and said he hates Diane abbot and when he sees her he wants to shoot all black people.

If you think those comments are ok, then I disagree.

They can't work till they have passed immigration. Change the law and they could / would have to work.

But still, why doesn't he pay his tax here and why did he accept 70m from our government then move his tax to Monaco.

I am not defending Ratcliffe or, oh dear, Farage; on the contrary, I believe they both conduct themselves poorly in interviews and are likely racists. However, this does not imply that Starmer, who is a liar, would have made any statements if he were not facing difficulties himself. He must address the issues within his own party before criticizing others. I am quite certain he has remained silent on numerous occasions.

Absolutely correct. Does seem a bit ironical that Starmer is making a big fuss about this, and the papers have made it front page headlines, on a week when Starmer's premiership has been teetering on the brink.

Lineker expressed regret for the video, acknowledging it as a mistake. In contrast, Ratcliff stated his intentions clearly and has yet to issue an apology. Should such statements carry consequences in democratic nations? For instance, consider Jeremy Clarkson's remarks in the Sun regarding Meghan, which were utterly appalling. These statements are undeniably racist and should not be confused with the concept of free speech, a topic JD Vance has been addressing in his discussions with Europeans about free expression.

Brilliant viewpoint . These individuals perceive immigrants as fools in their presence. Furthermore, it is important to remember that he has amassed wealth through the oil and gas industry, which has predominantly originated from the countries of immigrants, enabling his business to thrive and become prosperous. Without the oil and gas sector, he would likely be operating a fish and chips shop in close proximity to his residence.

The players he brings in are paid well, taxed, and make a positive contribution to the economy. They come here legitimately, with the necessary work visas, and generally head back to their home countries when their contracts expire.

As far as I'm aware, none of them use up our valuable resources such as government funded taxis to reach overburdened NHS appointments, or live in council-funded accomodation at the expense of our own citizens.

Evidently this Sir Jim Ratcliffe has now made a rather restrained apology for his badly worded remarks. Having now heard what he originally said and the apology, I can probably see where he is coming from and I have heard an awful lot worse. He has as much right to say what he thinks as indeed do the rest of us. Wouldn't have thought that may people would have been offended but who knows.

Still think Starmer was using this as a distraction. And to quote a couple of old cliches talk about 'making a mountain out of a molehill' and the whole thing is a 'storm in a teacup'

How many of these 'young African kids' are over here? Clubs certainly have kids on their books but they're not on contract because of their age, but it's mainly British kids.

One of my sons played football to a really high standard when young, and has mates who went on to play pro after being with Prem Club academies. Maybe I actually know more than you.

You clearly don't just cos a mate of a mate of a mate played pro football. I know someone who actually provided board and lodgings to one of these kids and they were part of the community with other families doing the same. Football clubs are using and discarding young kids from here and abroad.

Not Birmingham but Bolton, Manchester, Preston, Oldham, Rochdale, ..... Yes. There is a problem with immigration and integration, nobody is denying that, certainly not KS as the quote above proves. But it requires a detailed adult conversation, not the kind of rubbish that Sir Jimmy (again, where have I heard that?) came out with

Interesting number since the total raised from Income Tax, National Insurance and VAT in 2024/25 was £650 billion.

He’s right about too many people on benefits, there are and it’s not sustainable. Benefits should be a help through a sticky situation, not a career path. He could have put it across a bit better though.

He does have a bit of a point on colonisation too.

I moved into my current house 30ish years ago. Everyone on the block knew everyone. People were in and out of each others houses for a brew and a chat all the time. Any problem, there was always someone about that knew how to fix it. Everyone knew everyone else’s kids, so they were safe to play out. A stranger on the block stood out like a sore thumb.

Now you’re lucky if you can speak the same language as your next door neighbour. No one chats, and hardly anyone even says hello.

This can’t just be happening on one block in the country, so whilst it’s not exactly colonisation, something has drastically shifted.

A quarter of a mile from me is a hotel housing immigrants. A quarter of mile in the opposite direction is a council estate where the majority are on benefits, are petty criminals, county line kids, mum's taking their kids to school in their dressing gowns half an hour late. If you read the my post, I wasn’t laying any blame at anyone’s door.

I just said benefits shouldn’t be a career path and something has changed in our society, and in those two things Mr Ratcliffe was correct.

He didn’t word it well, and he’s possibly not the right man to point it out anyway, but i don’t think his basic idea was incorrect.

Benefits culture has been a massive issue for decades, stemming from Thatcher in my opinion, especially in this part of the world. But Sir Jim (keeps ringing a bell that name) was only talking about immigrants on benefits, never said anything about homogeneous benefit scroungers.

"So the stream of immigrants he brings into the country as performing ponies for 90 minutes is fine? It’s poor ones we don’t want, right?

The players he brings in are paid well, taxed, and make a positive contribution to the economy. They come here legitimately, with the necessary work visas, and generally head back to their home countries when their contracts expire.

As far as I'm aware, none of them use up our valuable resources such as government funded taxis to reach overburdened NHS appointments, or live in council-funded accomodation at the expense of our own citizens.

You are obviously clueless about the plethora of young African kids all these clubs have living over here from the ages of 12 up who they then discard at 16 when they decide that they aren't good enough.

Football clubs are using and discarding young kids from here and abroad."

I know full well how the system works, a mate of mine provides board and lodging for Arsenal and has done so for years. I remember when he was looking after Wilshire and Szczesny.

This has nothing to do with the discussion at hand, the kids and their parents know full well there are no guarantees.

Your opening boast was about a mate of your son's being good at football, now you say your mate lodged those 2, what's that I smell? Is it not the unmistakable aroma of BS? I'm not interested on who has closer ties to football, I couldn't give 2 shits about the sport, but I'm aware of what clubs are doing with young lives, including those from poor foreign families. And if you can't see the hypocrisy then I can't help you

I do wonder if the press and media have taken Sir Jim's comments out of context. On the lunchtime news we were only given a snippet of his original comment. The faragite 'stop the boats' and 'illegal immigrants' mantra has convinced a lot of people that all immigrants are scroungers and should not be here. Good immigrants play a vital part in keeping our infrastructure going. e.g. the NHS. They also pay taxes and get on with their lives. Bad immigrants--the minority---do tend to turn up uninvited, expect us to look after them, adapt to their ways and possibly commit crimes.

Sir Jim evidently got some of his figures wrong which did not help. He has apologised so a line needs drawing under this now. I might add that Starmer's attitude that all right-wingers--however moderate--are bad is on a par with the Faragite view that all immigrants are evil.

Just a point regarding immigrants working in the NHS. We have had such a large increase in patients, if the population figures add up, therefore these millions of immigrants and their offspring all need access to hospitals, dentists etc. That's why we are being told we have an NHS that’s creaking at the seams, and we should feel gratitude for all the immigrants the NHS employs.

Since when did stating the obvious become 'offensive'?

Or is it just that the very subject matter is a 'No Go' area these days?

Strenuous efforts to control reasonable lines of enquiry by both the left-wing media and, it would seem, our own government & it's agents of enforcement, are a concern.

The Ministry of Love's Hate Speech programme of persecution and indeed, prosecution, has got a little out of hand.

No one's complaining about NHS workers, but do we really need more barbers, nail salon 'technicians', Uber-Eats drivers and cannabis farmers?

"The irony of Starmer demanding an appology.

we can learn from Jim Ratcliffe , we can learn nothing from Starmer ... And no appology should ever be required for speaking the truth.

The truth being made up population figures and nonsense about being colonised? Go and Google some quote to satisfy your hubris and make an evening bigger tit of yourself "

Thank you for the opportunity to set the record straight, dear boy.

I'll quote what the man himself said ...

"You can't have an economy with 9 million people on benefits and huge numbers of immigrants coming in" - Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Not sure if that qualifies as 'pseudo-intellectual' in your narrow eyes ... I suppose it would depend on someone's own intellectual capacities.... or very apparent lack thereof.

Man who left the UK after helping asset strip the UK complains it’s not like it used to be! Let’s tax his assets in the UK and he can show how patriotic he feels when he pays the same taxes as the rest of us!

Ah sorry, you've put me in my place by choosing 1 part of what he said, ignoring the demonstrably incorrect parts, and the downright batshit crazy parts, and passing that off as the truth. If only I had the intelligence to realise the bit I want to listen to was the truth and not assess the whole interview, I would be so smug and full of my own hubris that even their own mother would want to slap them across the face every time they saw me.

And taking your little nugget of wisdom from Sir Jimmy, those 9 million benefit scroungers, wonder how many of those are people Sir Jimmy has put out of work, how many he's paying such paltry wages to that they are claiming UC to top up their income to be able to live?

Accepting Sir Jim used inappropriate language that didn't help the point he was making… there’s clearly an issue in many parts of the UK that needs a grown up discussion, rather than labelling anyone who dares to raise the subject, even when they do use the correct language, as being far-right or racist.

There should also be an acceptance that each person on here will be experiencing a different level of diversity / speed of change within their own town / community.

These differences in experiences will drive different, feelings, thoughts, opinions and, ultimately politics.

For example… using 2021 Census data, the average percentage of the population that is white is around 82%.

This being the average… it compares to one of the most ethnically diverse areas in Britain with 48.6% white in Birmingham (down from 57.9% in 2011) or in St Helens in Merseyside, where it is consistently ranked as one of the least ethnically diverse local areas, with about 98% white.

I expect these different experiences explains a number of the differences in opinion in here. Some areas see an issue, whereas others simply don’t… quite literally!

Despite coming from St Helens and so obviously never having seen any of these brown people before, I said exactly the same thing about there needing to be a serious, adult discussion about the problems caused by immigration. I imagine living in Alcester, 98.2% white according to Wikipedia, you're the same and also experience the same issues with poverty, crime, drugs and anti-social behaviour as our fair town does, caused by those dastardly, err, immigrants. Certainly not the lovely white people

Tax evasion is illegal. Tax avoidance is not. Nothing illegal about living abroad.

None millionaires also do this as it is the tax system , work out of the country for a set amount of days and you are tax exempt, no lope hole no aggressive avoidance just the tax law as it stands in Great Britain

And just how does avoiding tax like this help the counyridx....

Tax evasion is illegal. Tax avoidance is not. Nothing illegal about living abroad.

Perhaps he cannot bear one penny more than neccessary propping up benefit scroungers and the economic migrants taking the piss while our own sleep on the streets.

Still took 70 million of your money from the government though."

I am sure you would refuse to have an ISA on principle rather than avoid tax. This country needs more people like you. The dole bums love people like you.

"Accepting Sir Jim used inappropriate language that didn't help the point he was making… there’s clearly an issue in many parts of the UK that needs a grown up discussion, rather than labelling anyone who dares to raise the subject, even when they do use the correct language, as being far-right or racist.

Certainly not the lovely white people"

I did not mention crime, nor even alluded to it. And, for what it’s worth, Alcester actually has a crime rate below the national average.

Further, I’m not sure (most) people are necessarily focused only on crime levels, especially given any number of socio-economic factors drive this.

After all, there’s a host of changes that some are experiencing that need listening to and understanding… and respect. I.e. It can be as simple as feeling that one no longer ‘fits in’ in the area they’ve lived all their lives.

And this will be real for some outside of St.Helens (or Alcester)… for example… Imagine how it must feel in Birmingham for a white person who is watching themselves become a minority in the last ten years (48.6% based on 2021 census data, vs 57.9% a decade earlier). Now, once again, I am not trying to link that with changes in crime etc, but if that is happening on a person’s street, then it’d be naive to think it is not causing feelings. Feelings that need to listened to, and not just brushed off or labelled; far right / racist by those of us not experiencing this change.

"What happens when the people claiming benefits exceeds the number of people paying taxes? Asking for a friend. He's thinking of switching sides. "

The UK trend has been one way for the last 40 years. The first time a majority of households changed from being net tax contributors to a majority being net tax recipients occurred around the 2010–11 financial year, reaching as high as 53.4%. This was a significant and dramatic increase from the 43.8% in the 2000–01 financial year but something that our tight-lipped political class were too paralysed with fright to spell out to the country its long-term implications. The effect of the pandemic in the figures for 2020-21 obviously meant a steep dip in taxes collected and a massive increase in government expenditure, heavily distorting the underlying balance of tax payments. There has not been enough sensible analysis of what the real underlying status of net tax recipients is in the most recent period (COVID unwind still happening) but it is estimated that *at least* 60% of the country are now net recipients.

The situation is unsustainable. The top 20% quintile are ultimately paying for everyone else. Out of any 10 random people in the country (including kids and pensioners etc) only 2 or 3 are contributing funds. High levels of immigration dependency only exacerbates the issue.

No one wants to talk about this as the only real solutions will be so unpopular they’ll never get anyone elected. And politics and politicians are now so transitory that no one is interested in what things will be like in 20 years when they are well out of the picture. We are so buggered it’s unbelievable.

I agree with most of that but the far right-wing factions like Reform are heavily linking it to crime. And I totally understand what you are saying there, I've a friend in Halifax who is moving out because he's fed up of being woken by the call to prayers from his new next door neighbour every morning, and he's definitely not a racist. I know a guy on here who has moved from a certain part of Manchester because it is now almost exclusively Asian and no longer felt comfortable. But for the sensible discussion those people need to stop using inflammatory language like colonisation, invasion, hoards of attackers etc. Because that frankly is the language of racists

"He says what most of us all see and know. Those on the left will be screeming in their safe space calling for him to be cancelled."

It's obvious to anyone with eyes to see that his statement is true and factual; although with this woke mindset that is prevalent at the moment, he will be severely lambasted for it and will probably have to issue a retraction and apology! Hopefully, attitudes and freedom of speech will be 'Reformed in the very near future!

The hypocrisy here is amazing.

Two people using lefty and woke as a mindset.

Saying he will be cancelled, he can't be cancelled because we have free speech, he can however be disagreed with, because we have free speech.

Were you ok with Lineker when he was actually cancelled and taken off much of the day for a few weeks? Was that somehow different?

As far as Ratcliffes figures, he was a out 300% out on his figures according to some researchers.

Except most of what he said is demonstrably untrue. You reform lot are complete loons, you'd swear day is night.

Yeah, there's nothing more patriotic than tax avoidance, it's what makes the country great! It would only be spent improving the NHS and education so what's the point? Anybody paying taxes is nothing but a traitor!"

Wake up loads of tax money is spent funding bs wars we seem to be involved in.If you don’t like tax avoidance contact mp’s or House of Lords to change the law.His tax avoidance is within the law so live with it.Very few people agree with every law we have but that’s life you to live with it.

Well, since he hired Carrick as a temporary manager to manage his team, they have won ten points from a possible twelve and remain unbeaten in five consecutive games. They sit fourth in the EPL and on current form could go on to win the league! That's pretty good going in my book! Are you absolutely sure you know what you are talking about?

However, he had a fondness for Amorim. Simply observe the interview he conducted with the BBC. Any child could have proposed a better idea at the time of that interview. Carrick was not his preferred choice, and undoubtedly, had he been given the opportunity, he would have appointed another Mickey Mouse as a manager to drain Manchester United. Do not attribute any credit to him.

You've clearly got NI mixed up with Income Tax - they're separate deductions. Lots of people work past retirement age for valid reasons, and it's unfair to call them tax dodgers. Contributions depend on earnings, not age!

On a daily basis theres a report about at least one attack carried out by these backward wastes of air. Looking forward to the day we can get rid of them, lots of changes need to happen, stop all boat crossings , send the ones that are here back to wherever and make a law that stops Muslims being allowed to be in any sort of power.

As the saying goes I'm not right wing but I am always right.
