Anyone else watching this?

I'm quarter the way into episode 2, hoping the evil blond twink falls off the cliff, lol!

Of course I know he won't as that would ruin the rest of the story.

So far really good, never read the book, but seen the 1963 black and white film and the 1990 colour Hollywood version.

This always brings back memories of English at High School those standard texts we were all forced to read….😩

Never could take to it.

Have heard some good things about this TV version though but I’ll give it a miss…

The classic Peter Brook 1963 version is a definitive film. It captures the book successfully. The appalling 1990 shmuck with Balthazar Getty is best left unmentioned. No idea about this miniseries version (don’t watch live TV) but I’ve seen a trailer and was not taken. But I very much doubt it will be as understated as it needs to be.

We live in a superficial age where so many can’t watch old film classics (“it’s black and white - I can’t watch that”) and so they keep remaking classics as colour dross for the lowest common denominator. Eg That *appalling* remake of Brighton Rock about 15 years back that unsurprisingly bombed.

Can’t say i accurately remember the book from ‘forced’ reading at school, as part of curriculum. Though i remember not enjoying it particularly.

So i doubt i’ll tune into this.

We read it and discussed it and had to write essays about it at school. So long ago I can hardly remember a thing other than there was a lad called Piggy and they has a conch which the teacher had to explain to us as none of us knew what it was.

Watched the first episode last Sunday. A bit bored if anything. Not sure I will bother with it this weekend.

I didn't fancy it from the trailers, and the four points of view thing seems a bit forced.

The book's best, putting all sorts of fears into your head (mankind reverting to savagery, insectophobia and the unknown brooding menace of the thing up the hill).

Like others, I read it for O Level and loved it. Better than bloody Dickens and Shakespeare! As part of it we were taken by the school to see the black and white film, which I remember as very good. Not going to watch the TV series as could spoil my memories. Could be good though to hook younger generations

Without giving the story away like some people have done i didn’t think it would be any good but it was good but slightly disturbing that humans especially at this age can be so cruel

I studied the book at school and watched both films. It's more nostalgic of my younger days for me and I re read it last year, I think I appreciate it more now than I did back then. Will have to watch this series now, thanks for reminding me

LONDON WEST

One of my set books for English Literature O level was 'The Mill on the Floss"...what a dreary pile of Victorian shite

Then to make matters worse the set Shakespeare was " Macbeth". Put me off Shakespeare for life.

Lord of the Flies (along with Mill on the Floss. I am David. My Family and other Animals) were set books while I was at School. I'm not bothering with the TV series, as Piggy still ends up dead.

Interestingly I bet they never set Pincher Martin as a set text although it's a far more complex book. Never been filmed either as far as I know.
