Drink Driving

It’s late (3:30am). Been out, taxi home, in bed browsing on here. Get a message from a guy nearby asking if I can travel. I say normally yes but not right now as I am over the drink/drive limit.

Get two messages saying ‘roads are quiet’, I ‘won’t get caught’ and I should risk it as he wants my load.

Blocked him as there’s no way I am chancing it and don’t really want to meet someone who thinks it’s acceptable.

Would you have chanced it?

As someone who has worked in A&E and seen the results of people drink driving I certainly wouldn’t. Well done you too, it's a shame more people don’t have your attitude.

I've been asked to do this a good few times, my stock answer is... so you'd be alright with a few road deaths on your conscience. No thanks.

It’s a particular success in the UK that we have come to view drink driving as anti-social, a bit like smoking.

Other countries need to catch up

Yes , Thailand for one, it was rife there everyone done it, mostly a danger to themselves and I regret to say me as well when I was young and stupid and lived there, riding motorbikes pissed, the police didn't care and would let you off iff you gave them 500 bath. Turns my stomach now, when I go back there I get taxis if I don't want to walk.

Glossop / Stockport

When I was a teen the drink driving limits were higher and if I'm being honest no-one batted an eyelid because drink driving was commonplace. There was no stigma or shame and little understanding of the consequences.

Hell, most folk didn't wear seatbelts either.

It's amazing what education and awareness did. I remember the national campaigns and the effect it had on people.

I changed overnight and wouldn't dream of driving with even a sip of alcohol and its been that way ever since.

I think I'm in the majority now.. but there are those who still drink and drug drive without a second thought. We see them every night on police interceptors...

As someone who in my teens( over 20 years ago) was stopped for, and prosecuted for drink driving, I learned pretty quickly what an absolute idiot I had been. Its a shame that loosing my licence was the wake up I needed, but I've never, ever done it since. Not even a drop, and I always consider if I need to drive the next day. A tonne of metal and clouded judgment should never go together. There's no excuse for using alcohol or drugs as something that ultimately is a conscious decision, they could be devastating, for you and for others.

There will be selfish dicks who would do though and probably cause some injury or fatality to others just to get their balls emptied.

Agreed 100% the right thing to do by refusing to drive. It may have been 03:30 but things can still happen, and if you did have an accident (anyone else involved or not) you would have been the one who had to live with the consequences not the idiot who expected you to drive.

To be honest anyone messages me in the early hours of the morning or late at night can go do one, whether I've been drinking or not, there's no way I'm leaving the house or inviting anyone round for that matter.

It's the usual horn causing requests like this.

I'd been messaging a fella who was out at a local darts tournament. Miscomms somewhere as I thought he was coming to mine on the way home.

1230am and he's back online and messaging me. Told him I was ready when he said oh no! I've had like 5 pints.

I'd had a few cans at home too. He asked me to drive over as about 15mins away.

Got all arsey then when I said I wouldn't. Just blocked his profile.

Of course dd is stupid and roundly condemned on here, however, how many contributors use their mobile whilst driving?

I drive a lot for a living and I see so many each day.

I remember watching a tv show and the presenter was put to the test, on a private circuit, with various obstacles, like a pram emerging between parked cars, and he drank up to 4 pints of beer and his reactions were better compared to when using a mobile phone, with texting being the worst.

Right decision, but the idiot was too thick to also realize that if someone has been drinking, that they have had too much to drink and they may have a touch of the "Brewers Droop" and they won't be getting your "load"

I've been there, someone wanted me to suck them off, when I got there, they had been drinking and they couldn't even get a hard on no matter how long I sucked and licked, just a limp dick. Waste of a journey.
