So how does it work? What's the objective?

Is it closest to the middle?

Just pointing out that it’s easier to find out there than from a bunch of smart arse nonsensical answers on here. Don’t like it? Ignore it.

I suggested using Google 23 minutes ago. You would have the answer by now if you hadn’t wanted someone else to do the work for you.

Half a kilo?

You were lucky to make it through until morning.

Fuck knows.

Anybody else find it utterly bewildering that these minority hobbies get so much attention every 4 years and ordinarily oblivious people to these pastimes freak out about it?

And then you never hear about them for the next 4 years?🤔

Where do these sports go for 4 years? Where do these hyper crazy fans go?

It’s totally bizarre

How interesting although I should have guessed in Scotland.

We used to have a massive speedway event each year at the Principality Stadium and the Poles, Swedes, Germans would go nuts for it, draped in flags, face painting etc

Yet, other than that, I’ve never met anyone who’s an enthusiast like that at any other time.

"So does the sweeping speed it up or slow it down?"

No, the rink is free if users are prepared to clean it up themselves and doing each time is the most efficient.

"So does the sweeping speed it up or slow it down?"

I just gives themn something to do .. while the stone ever-so slowly moves towards its intended target.

It's the only 'sport' where doping involves having to drink strong coffee, just to stay awake during a game.

"So does the sweeping speed it up or slow it down?"

When they sweep they are pressing down quite hard onto the ice. This pressure melts the surface of the ice very slightly so that the stone is actually sliding on a very thin layer of water, that refreezes almost immediately. This allows them to control precisely how far the stone travels.

So in answer to your question, sweeping doesn't make the stone go faster or slower. What is does is to slow it's rate of deceleration.

Way too complex for some of you on here.

And that's why boring football is so popular in far too much of it on tv.

Good Lord!

Why not just do away with it as both sides would still be equal anyway?

🤔

No, it's the rotation they put on the stone at the point of release that makes it curl.
