I'm looking at booking an appointment and going on prep but before I do I wonder if anyone can tell me how these appointments usally go, what's involved what steps ect. I can't go in blind I'm someone who needs to know what to expect, so yeah if anyone has gone to a sexual health clinic to get on prep please share you experience with me - any info I can get will make me less nervous.

you phone the clinic, they ask you when your appt suits, when you go they ask what sexual activity you have had, then you leave there and then with prep for 3 months

What he said above. They'll probably weigh you. They will get you to so some swab and urine tests, and they will take blood for testing. Results of those are usually done by text up to a week later. If is all very friendly, non-judgy.

That varies from clinic to clinic. In London I got Prep straight away after blood tests and swaps (oral and rectal) and a urine sample. However, in my local clinic, the first time I went I had to wait around two weeks for my blood tests to come back regarding kidney function before they would issue and Prep.

They will also ask you about your recent sexual history. How many partners, were you active or passive, was it just oral or anal sex etc. They even ask me the names of my current and regular sexual partners every time I go.

Fulls set of sti tests and liver function prior to being given prep. Was also offered both Hep and m-pox. Have since been offered and accepted additional vaccines (although less effective) and have been offered doxy prep when rolled out in my area.

Sexual history recorded. No specifics, but I am always asked if I could contact partners in the event of a positive.

I’m led to believe some of the vaccines were risk based, i.e. were offered as I was considered at risk of catching.

Staff are fantastic, non judgmental and happy that you are taking responsibility for your sexual health.

I've just had my latest round of tests, it's got to be done

Very discrete, efficient and the staff are friendly and non judgemental.

But you have to be honest with them, your helping noone by being evasive

Eww. The second I read your first sentence I knew that upon perusal of your bio that the spiteful nature of your words would become apparent and it did. What a dismal old man, tweaking any old innocuous posting to within an inch of its life in the hope that it’ll be caught by someone possibly not feeling their best in order that it work away insidiously affecting some form of psychological damage.

Weak-ass 🚮

Where do the gay men who are laser-focused on what T-girls are/are not find the time to do any actual bumming??

Based on my experience, made an appointment, they did a full spectrum set of tests (most of which take about a week for the results to come back) they did do an HIV test which gives a result in a couple of minutes - this is important because if you are positive you can’t have prep. Discussed sexual history, was offered Hepatitis jabs. Also, discussed the ways to take prep, either daily or event based - if you don’t have sex that often then go for event based, this is where you take two tablets a couple of hours before a meet, and one tablet a day for the following two days. All very friendly and non judgmental, just be honest with them, it is in your best interest to do so.

Probably much the same in most places. Ring up and ask about going on Prep, they normally arrange a Doctors phone call when convenient, to talk over why you want to go on Prep. Then normally an arrangement for a visit to the clinic for for tests for any Stds, bloods also for liver function, as Prep can cause liver problems. Once that's done, you get your 3 month supply.

As well as the main clinics, there should be smaller satellite clinics, usually based at GP surgeries and in the evenings. These won’t have the full range of services like the main clinics but you’ll be seen and clerked in to the system.

Remember you don’t have to give your real name but must remember what name you gave to prevent multi (ghost) patient records. You can give your name if you want your SH record added to your main NHS health record.

All sexual health clinic records are separate from GP and hospital records.

Your test are done with a code and date of birth. They cannot be accessed by your GP or the hospital unless you give permission. You can opt to inform your GP even at a later date.

You can give a false name but please keep your real date of birth as people usually forget that so it makes it difficult to find you on the system and you can’t access results.

My experience..very easy ..chatted about sexual history regarding how many partners, when, and activities...hot a bit of a hardon talking about that lol

Took bloods, self took swabs and urine sample..given vaccination to get up to date...given three months supply prep but told to not take until hiv test came back.

Phoned next day to say clear for I can take prep.

I remember the phone call..she sounded really up and excited like Id won a prize

I go through the procedure every 3 months

I might change that to every 6 and in between do the online one

Splitting hairs but I think it's the kidney function they check for rather than liver

Are you 100% sure on this not appearing on the NHS app?

I ask because I'm on lifetime treatment for a condition which requires GP & Consultant appointments and blood tests at least three monthly.

If it's not 100% confidential with the GUM clinic, I won't go. I'd rather be celibate, except for oral.

The nhs sexual health clinics do not pass info to your GP, and it does not filter into the NHS app. It is, of course, absolutely essential that you tell the sexual health clinic about all your other health conditions, treatments and medications. They'll ask so just be honest.

Don't forget though guys, if your doctor asks you what meds you are taking, it's a real good idea to tell him/her if you're taking prep, doxypep etc. Some other meds aren't really compatible with them, especially anything that might put extra srrain on your kidneys.

As others have said, your sexual health clinic is there to keep you healthy. In my experience the staff are very open and will not judge you at all, so be honest with them.

Bournemouth and Poole professional non judgemental get you up to date with all vaccinations. They are there to protect you. They test your kidney function every other (6 month) blood test (3month tests are for STI's ) issue you with 3 month prep. They don't tell your GP (they have seperate computer systems) that's up to you but be honest with them and your GP because of interactions with other medications.

Get yourself safe you owe it to your partner's

Miss Smith ❤️❤️❤️

I go to the clinic that is attached to my doctor surgery, always find it easier to pop in and book an appointment rather than use the phone booking system.
