If he was still alive he would have been 100 years old today (21 February)

A troubled soul. Good documentary about him on BBC 4 last week. Totally failed to come to terms with his Sexuality …..very sad personal life disguised by a legacy of laughter. Oh Matron.

LONDON WEST

I met him once and used to see him walking around the area of Great Portland Street

So erudite, but so unhappy. It was all facade and he was envious of Joe Orton's fame and promiscuity

He, Frankie Howard and others, only allowed by the BBC etc to be the public face of gay men within limits...and so it continues

I love the way he used Polari right under the noses of the BBC old boy network.

His diaries are worth reading. Quite funny in places and sad in others. Very poignant with his last diary entry the night before he died.

Rambling Syd Rumpo…. His comedy folk music was absolutely brilliant I’m always amazed how few people have heard of it, and if they have they didn’t know it was him..!!

Such a talented guy, who lived such a sad life…

North London (outer)

Very British, very funny, and very much of a one-off.

He was always very entertaining and always a brilliant guest for chat show hosts. He and Dame Maggie Smith were great friends and were ways impersonating each other.

I remember Around The Horn with Julian and Sandy always a joy to listen too. Fondly remembered as one of our great comedians and actors who had a successful acting and thestre career before before the Carry On films.

Comedy genius. Walked past him once. Decades ago. Wish I’d spoken to him.

Gogledd Ddwyrain Cymru

A tribute to Kenneth Williams, a professional wordsmith of genius, and a national treasure. His voice was a precision instrument, cutting through nonsense with wit and disdain.

A complex man, revealed in his diaries, but in public, a whirlwind of theatricality. His timing was flawless, excising the inane with ease.

We celebrate your 100th birthday, dear Kenneth, alas we will never see your likes again in this life, but here's hoping for the next!

Requiescat in Pace.🕊️🌿

Infamy, infamy, they've all got it in for me" is a famous, comedic line from the 1964 British film Carry On Cleo. It is spoken by Julius Caesar (played by Kenneth Williams).

Perhaps the best comic line ever, in a movie.

Loved him on Just a Minute, very funny and clever. Excellent entertainment, him and Clement Freud on the same show, magic radio.

"Don’t forget Julian and Sandy

Roger the cabin boy and Seaman Staines

Roger the Cabin Boy and Seaman Staines are urban myths "

And those urban myths relate to Captain Pugwash which was narrated by Peter Hawkins, nothing to do with Kenneth Williams.

I still think the cast of Hancock's half hour to be the finest ensemble of comedy .

Sid James, Hattie Jacques, Tony Hancock, Kenneth Williams.

Any toppers?

A deeply troubled soul, bless him.

Only 62 when he passed but seemed to age decades in just his last few years.

RIP

Still laugh every time I think about that line. Pure genius and brilliant delivery.

Lovely man- didn t have a nasty bone in his body. Hilarious - and yes so sad - reflecting the days of illegality
