Transphobia In The Media

Recently on Jeremy Vine a Transwoman who said she’s been stabbed twice and considers a certain part of London a no go area was bluntly told by Henry Bonsu it’s a big city, sadly that happens sometimes “.

Would he say the same to Stephen Lawrence’s mother? I highly doubt it. This is shameful, open and blatant transphobia.

There any many stabbings in London. Unless she was openly targeted as a trans it is true that sadly it does happen. Anyone who has been stabbed could be told the same thing. You are seeing transphobia where there is no evidence of it. (Unless there is more to the story than you are saying)

Was she saying the areas are no go because she is trans? (You don’t specify) If so then the transphobia is in those areas not in the media.

If anything being told “these things happen” is actually treating her like anyone else and not because she is trans. It is possibly the opposite of transphobia.

Comparing it to Stephen Lawrence is totally wrong. You are picking a high profile case to make an emotive comparison. There are many attacks on people of all colours and ethnicity and/or gender.

Trans has become a major subject. Used to be something rarely mentioned other than occasionally in the more sleazy Sunday papers. There is prejudice like there is still prejudice against gay, people of different ethnicity etc. Not sure that the media is anti. Some trans people sadly don't help themselves by being militant and 'in yer face'. I knew a quite famous transwoman who lived in a small rural town. She was accepted and almost a local celebrity.

Yes I think he would. Black people should avoid racist areas, Trans people should avoid transphobic areas.

That's not saying it's right, just that it's safer.

Unfortunately the world (well the West particularly since Covid) has lost nuance and slipped into a place of black and white thinking.

There is not middle ground anymore so youre either on one side of the fence or the other. Views are demonised or idolised.

Take the trans debates:

Do i agree with JKRowling? No

Do i agree with Lily Tino? Also, no.

My views lie somewhere in between. I have trans friends, when im around them, they feel like women in the group. Do they claim to be women? No they claim theyre trans, biologically male.

But biological sex and the gender we feel doesnt always align. That's a fact.

If we didnt judge how people should think, feel, express themselves based on what genitalia they had we would live in a world where more people felt more comfortable in the bodies they were born in abd the debate wouldn't exist.

The Transwoman stated she’d been stabbed for being Trans.

The fact Vine didn’t challenge his guest on this, and the minimal amount of challenging of Henry’s comment speaks volumes.

Funnily enough, the only challenge to it I’ve seen is from the GB news lot, but they obviously put their own spin/agenda to it.

Obviously not Jewish then when marches were/are taking place?

So many reports of “openly” Jewish men on their way to synagogue threatened with arrest and/or actually detained by the MET for antagonist behaviour, even in areas the marches had not even reached, that the MET had to issue two apologies.

The second was required after the first branded Jews provocative.

The caller to the Vine show, revealed a very uncomfortable truth.

Bonsu's reaction to that truth was equally revealing in it's lack of understanding or sympathy.

Vine was caught between a rock and a hard place there.

To side with the transwoman who had been stabbed twice in London's more 'vibrantly diverse/Multi-cultural' areas, merely for being a transwoman in the 'wrong place' ... or with Henry Bonsu, a BBC commentator of Ghananian heritage, who put the transwoman's lived experience as merely an unfortunate consequence of "London being a big City & stabbings are bound to happen".

Just an observation. Everyone seems to go on and on about their rights, but seem to forget about their obligations that go with them.

Yes, you have the right to live the life you want, but you also have the obligation for your safety. If you put yourself in a dangerous situation or area, that is down to you.

For example, Every day you can see people just walking out into the road without even bothering to check for oncoming traffic, they are taking no responsibility for their own safety, yet if they get hurt they will be looking for someone else to blame.

Or that video clip, easily found, of trannies stood on the side lines of a Palestinian march with their Palestinian placards wearing their keffiyehs where marchers told them to fuck off.

And the trannies said they were on the same side.

And the marchers said no we are not, fuck off.

That's exactly the point the previous poster is making . The woman who had been stabbed felt that parts of London were no go areas for trans people (rightly or wrongly),

Had a high profile victim of a child stabbing said the same thing about being a black teenager in parts of London,

They would not have received the same glib "your imagining the problem" dismissal.

It's fashionable with certain parts of society to be intolerant of transgender people at the moment, and increasingly it's acceptable to dismiss gender dysphoria as indicative of mental illness, conflating very real problems with mental health provision, with a dismissal of "imagined 'woke' conditions".

There are ding bats out there and what we see very often in mainstream media, is shrewd right wing opportunist creating confusion and click bait for ding bat followers so they can ridicule genuinely vulnerable people of the sort even Jeremy Kyle would screen out as not sufficiently competent to represent themselves.

Would he say the same to Stephen Lawrence’s mother? I highly doubt it. This is shameful, open and blatant transphobia.

"

The concern about the high volume of knife crime in London is valid, and it's unfortunate that violence affects many people. If there's no evidence that the individual was targeted because of their trans status, it's possible the focus on transphobia might be misplaced.

The media's response might be treating the situation like any other case of violence, rather than singling out the person's trans status. Comparisons to high-profile cases such as the Stephen Lawrence case need careful context, as they involve different circumstances.

"

People like you take dramatic news stories and imagine them to be typical of life in a certain area, and you are wrong."

9000, yes, 9000 cases of child exploitation were announced just a few short months ago to be reviewed* by by the MET.

Now, I’ll bet my properties on it that the overwhelming majority of these alleged victims will be little white girls, you know the ones, who can safely walk all over London on their own or with friends at any time of day, in light or dark, to go to the sweet shop to buy some gummy bears.

And the perpetrators? Hmmm

It’s a very bold statement you make that London has no no-go areas before we find out the results of this review.

* Why even the need for a review?

Could it be that they were swept under the carpet in the first place?

Political pressure?

Laila Cunningham, former CPS senior lawyer based in London, knows a thing or two and is bound, for now, to not reveal due to possible legal prejudice.

Ms Cunningham, a Muslim, is Reform’s mayoral candidate for London.

Tantalisingly, she has said she will undertake a comprehensive investigation into Mayor Khan’s complete tenure. Make of that what you will.

I bet Khan is bricking it, as are others.

So, good on you for your couple of diverse friends who love their neighbours.

The truth is coming.

"The Media is NOT transphobic at all!!!

Im fact they play along with the stupidity, and have done for years

Fuelling the hatred of the easily led masses for clicks & political gain may not be technically construed as transphobia but I’m finding it difficult to understand how a member of the trans community finds the RW media exempt of blame while their people are regularly being thrown under a bus/used as a political punchbag in the latest round of their attack on progressive culture

THIS!!"

People like you take dramatic news stories and imagine them to be typical of life in a certain area, and you are wrong.

No one’s scared of you, you just sound like a daft racist, sweetie 💋

I've been on the receiving end of a lot of it and publicly, I wouldn't believe everything you hear, and makes no difference who looks like what, humans are humans and those who act with violence and hatred just for fun or self protected fear are going to be very unhappy with their revelation at the end

"Recently on Jeremy Vine a Transwoman who said she’s been stabbed twice and considers a certain part of London a no go area was bluntly told by Henry Bonsu it’s a big city, sadly that happens sometimes “.

Would he say the same to Stephen Lawrence’s mother? I highly doubt it. This is shameful, open and blatant transphobia.

Yes I think he would. Black people should avoid racist areas, Trans people should avoid transphobic areas.

That's not saying it's right, just that it's safer."

How on earth can anyone identify Transphobic and racist areas? Those with flags??
