Spurs fan here.
As much as I don't like Arsenal, I'm not obsessed with them. My focus is firmly on the bottom half of the table.
Yesterday was a free hit for us and allowed Igor Tudor to see what the task is in front of him.
The pressure was all on Arsenal, but fair play to them, they were the better team and deserved the win.
But whether we stay up or not won't be decided by playing the likes of Arsenal.
6 of our remaining 11 fixtures are against sides in 10th or lower. Results against those sides, especially at home to Palace and Forest and away to Wolves, will be key.
But with a whole team crocked, including Kulusevski, Maddison, Kudus, Bergvall, Porro and Odobert, it would be a challenge for any coach to get results.
The sides at the top could well have a bearing on who gets relegated. It's worth noting that Arsenal have got to go to West Ham on 9th May.
Just imagine if Arsenal beating West Ham allows us to stay above them. That would be funny!
Talking of West Ham, they've got Liverpool next, but also have to face Man. City at home, Villa away, Arsenal at home, Newcastle away and finish at home to Leeds, who only have to lose couple of games and could be back in the mix.
I still think we'll escape, but the underlying issues will remain.
A chronic and recurring injury situation and a board who refuse to pay the kind of wages to attract the best players will continue to afflict the club, not to mention that we'll have no European football next season, because let's be realistic, we're not going to win the Champions League!
That of course, will not only make it harder to sign quality players, but may signal the departure of the likes of van de Ven.
Whatever happens, it's likely to be years before we get back to being a regular, top 6 club.
And as far as I'm concerned, that's the fault of the board and their endless penny pinching. |
