Do any of you use oil for your heating?

Ive been monitoring the Brent price and the news as we heat by oil. Looking at the build up of forces near Iran I took the plunge and ordered my top up tonight at 64 pence per litre. Whats your strategy?

Whatever I say.

One of my let properties is a rural farm house in s Wales uses oil but it’s just not worth obsessing over.

Always seemed to be the fault of anything for rising prices, from foot & mouth to Take That splitting up

I keep my tank 3/4 full, to allow me to buy during the drops; not that there are so many at the moment.

Also, heating oil prices are not linked only to crude oil. They’re also linked to diesel demand, heating stocks in the US, and forecasts / actual weather in North America (in particular).

Keep and eye on this site… though there can be a week’s delay or more between commodity price changes and retail price changes

About 62p a litre last Tuesday. I imagine an increase now Iran is being attacked.

To complete the story my oil arrived this morning. They honoured the 64p litre when I booked and paid late on the 27th Feb online when the ships were on their way.

I have heard some companies are not doing this and charging the current rate on delivery which is now much higher even though they quoted a lower price.

On investigating the tnc's it turns out my supplier only keeps two days supply in their storage facility so the price is not baked in. Normally I phone for a quote and pay over the phone on delivery but because it was done online and paid for they had to deliver at that price.

Worth knowing how they operate!

64p/L in october last year quoted £1.42 today for 3000L.

So its heating thermostat way down and immersion heater going on, until things improve

Yep, my tank is down to about 1/5th, so I've reset the on/off times for heating and just ordered a mains socket timer for the immersion so I can stick it on for a couple of hours during the early hours on the lower EV tariff period.

I am all electric but have individual timers for individual oil filled radiators, no point having heating on upstairs when I live downstairs in the daytime

Heat the room you’re in with an electric heater - a hell of a lot cheaper than oil at those prices. Wear a gilet helps keep you toasty warm. Use Economy 7 or a flexible electricity tariff if you’ve got a smart meter. Finally pray Trump gets bored and moves onto something else pronto.
