You watch prices jump up very quickly. And them takes months to fall back down. Fuel companies will cash in on this big time.

So true. We're all "civilised" until the rumours and panic set in.

What causes the Fuel shortages is the panic buyers. The industry is set up to supply a demand that has been mapped over time. If everyone breaks routine and decides to fill up then demand spikes and supply can't quickly anticipate the need so you get shortages and then people loose their minds.

"Petrol prices will rise and yet the price of sunshine and wind stay the same. "

Trouble is that electric is priced as if it was all generated by oil, rather than the actual generation mix.

Obviously oil powered generation has its place as a fast to bring up supply to fill gaps in demand, but the current practice of charging all electric at oil generated prices is what is causing excessive prices.

No panic buying here and prices still the same

Only panic buying will ensure earlier higher prices and running out of fuel

Before the increase in prices does trickle to the pumps

I knew last week we were in for a price increase as a lot of the service areas didn't have HGV diesel, the fuel companies knew something was happening.

Exactly ! People who wouldn’t panic buy are forced to join the lemmings before they clear everything out. And it makes the EV users even more smug than usual!

Yes, and non of the governments tells us how much extra they get when the cost of petrol/diesel goes up, and it's an eye watering amount "extra", and we are just around the corner from the spring budget, oh sorry I mean the the spring statement or whatever the Uniparty calls it!

Really.... oh for rural living.. 4pm today, the village garage, no one else to be seen, filled up, went to get my other car plus a can for lawnmower petrol too afterwards, still no one there. Only 1.34 a litre for the diesel. You avoid all the usual nonsense out in the country.

Agreed on that, as at school, I got vouchers school uniform, and vouchers for free school dinners, and this was back in the 1970s, so it worked very successfully back then.

I think that’s incorrect!

Electricity is priced in comparison to oil

For reason being

If electricity was cheaper everyone would use electricity as if gas or oil were cheaper it would just be a single source being used which would put the price up of that particular energy source

They are all priced in conjunction with each other

Read somewhere that since US has started producing massive amounts of oils and also controls venwzualn oil sales, the disruption isn't expected to be massive.

Gogledd Ddwyrain Cymru

It's clear that many people in modern society rely heavily on their own transport, whether they're commuting to work, living in rural areas with limited public transport, or simply need to get around for daily life. Given this dependence on cars, it's no surprise that the possibility of a fuel shortage sparks concern - and even panic - among many. The impact of being unable to fuel up would be immediate and far-reaching, affecting daily routines, livelihoods, and overall sense of security. In that context, panic buying starts to make more sense, as people try to mitigate the potential disruption to their lives.

No diesel in Sainsbury's. Limited diesel in Tesco. No price change. The local independent station went from £1.349 to £1.399. I drove straight through. They can shove their hose where the sun doesn't shine.

I'm wanting to book a ferry to France for the end of March return 4 weeks later. I'm not sure if I can get there and back. 1600 miles round trip.
