Towcester

I did a BSc Human Biology & Psychology, an MSc in Health Studies.

I taught secondary school science for a short while; then went and got a proper job!

Brave man. Takes courage to try to teach, especially now that you aren't allowed to use corporal punishment.

That would be implied by the phrase "now that you aren't allowed too"

The best teachers I have known have never had a need to resort to those measures

Indeed, order, discipline, law, and respect are essential for a successful and progressive society. Regrettably, some of these fundamentals seem increasingly scarce in this "advanced" age.

MPhys, astro. Later a BSc in computer science, I did a PGCE but decided teaching wasn't for me. I did all that as a mature student

The best teachers are the one that captivate you. Not the ones who twist your ear or make you stand in the corner with a waste bin over your head! Kids don't know their born these days. They don't even get shouted at. I had a maths teacher who 9 times out of ten could hit you between the eyes with a piece of chalk, and it bloody hurt!

kids don't know they're born. Now, bend over and drop them. I'll fetch my cane.

No they are more likely to stab you judging by a lot of reports in the news nowadays. They seem to see things as having no consequences for them because they can just make a false claim about abuse - which is why a lot of teachers have left the profession.
