City breaks are good. You'll feel less self-conscious as there's often single travellers on business trips. Can be a nice self-indulgence as it allows you to suit yourself on which activities or attractions you visit.

Most of the gay resorts are good too as there's plenty of single travellers and you'll not be short of company/fun.

.

Since my husband passed in the summer I've been away twice by myself. One just a city break to Amsterdam - but as I lived there for years, I was completely comfortable.

I'm going to Vietnam next month though which is obviously a bigger trip. I think the key thing is either be entirely comfortable in your own company or make sure you look up more sociable bars or tours so you can meet other people. I'm a huge planner really, so I have pretty detailed itineraries which I find helpful by myself, as I can just know what I should be doing all the time rather than getting lost in my head.
