I’ve heard rumours of police raiding cruising sites in Surrey but never experienced it until recently. Sitting in my car at the hogs back I saw a police car pull in behind me.I drove off and returned 30 minutes later and it was still there so I called it a day

Wondered if anyone else had had similar experiences recently

They are all over the place. More obvious in school holidays. At least they use marked cars most of the time

There for protection of site “users” I think, not to try to catch anyone up to “mischief” unless there have been complaints, in which case they act as a deterrent, as the OP implied.

They are definitely not there to protect site users that is ridiculous advice.

The only reason they will be there is because of complaints. Crack down on ASB. Or they are on a break and it's a coincidence that they are there.

Good, if people feel they need to hang around public car parks for fun instead of their own bed or a hotel then there's something wrong.

Often there is drugs involved so it's right they are checking up and taking registrations.

I cruise a layby in the South Wales Valleys. Only ever seen them with the officer in the passenger side of van looking down to see if fellas with cocks out at wheel.

Never seen them raid and jump over fence to a fairly busy cruising area.

Each to their own

Cruising out doors can be exciting, try it sometime instead of condemning something you havent

No, I've got a home with a bed in it and don't need to hang around car parks at night 😂

The Police generally leave these places alone and will only show a presence if there have been multiple complaints about people openly engaging in sexual acts or if there becomes an issue with people leaving evidence behind condoms etc. they will also show a presence if people there have been victims of crime gay bashing etc. don’t ask me how I know!

My ex is a Police Officer, they will pay attention around cruising areas over school holidays, or if there have been multiple complaints from the public due to guys having sex or walking around naked or dressed up in stockings and suspenders or if the have incidents with guys being attacked.

At the end of the day, just common sense is needed, meet, pick up go somewhere quieter or deeper into the undergrowth and take your litter home with you....

A busy layby near me was raided a few years back after a mother stopped so her son could have a wee and their were guys in the bushes.

It was regularly checked for some time but eventually the police stopped going. It's now back to how it was.

Cruising in laybys can be great fun but it's about being aware that not every car is pulling in for the same reason you are.

Like most things, they can end up being spoiled by an inconsiderate few who can’t exercise better judgment.

There were a few really good cruising sites near where I used to live, one in particular was really popular but was ruined by a few selfish idiots. There was a car park and then as you walked away from the car park there was a bridge over the dual carriageway. There were areas on both sides of the dual carriageway in thick shrubland that were used for cruising and all the locals knew that’s what went on there and for the most part ignored it or at least grudgingly tolerated it as they clutched their pearls. Sadly some people were having sex in the car park in broad daylight, In full sight of everyone, there were some dressers in just lingerie that left nothing to the imagination walking through the car park and there was one instance of a naked person on a dog leash. Following that the council came in and cut back all the shrubs and there was a heightened police presence. After a while the shrubs grew back but it never was quite as good as it used to be. I did speak to the police there a couple of times and they were really chilled, they were very much of the opinion that they didn’t care that people were having sex there as long as they were being discreet about it and being safe. What really frustrated me at these cruising sites was the litter, there were condom packets, used condoms, Lube sachets, tissue, boxer shorts, drinks bottles etc all just dropped in the areas people were having sex in. Bin bags were set up so that rubbish could be neatly disposed of but people still littered it was ridiculous and then people wonder why cruising sites get a bad reputation. Be discreet and be tidy or cruising sites will go the way of cottages.

Completely agree. And it's no more illegal than straight dogging. There won't be 'raids' (what ever that means) unless people are being stupidly indiscreet. At which point you'll be asked to dissist. If you really continue blowing that guy, well you asked for it

Litter is one of the major problems. I just don't understand why so many people just cannot keep the places clean.

Suspect you're missing the point; it's not about a warm, safe comfy bed. It's about the feral excitement of being out on the prowl... never knowing what or who you will meet or experiance; throw an edge of danger in the mix and for some its better than a comfy bed!

There used to be a public toilet across the road from the police station in Leicester. Once a month it would get raided but we got told in advance so the regulars never went that night. Back then it was still illegal to have gay sex.

I do miss those toilets.
