The nurses are experts. I know what you mean about needles though. I never look . But it is practically painless. Its the waiting thats the worst.

Blood tests every 3 months, vaccines etc… we should all be pretty used to needles

I know it’s not a competition but I had 34 vials of blood, 3 failed lumber punctures before they managed to get it done and IV antibiotics, antivirals and steroids for 5 days last week, so I’m pretty sure you’ll survive a blood test

Let them know and they may well get a paediatric nurse to do it you won’t feel a thing the place I go are amazing I can watch them do the blood draw and not feel it happen

I've had plenty of jabs as I travel a lot ,the key is not to watch but these days it really doesn't hurt at all ,in many instances I haven't even realised the jab has occurred so there really is nothing to be alarmed about.

Just hope it is nothing serious that you need to get a blood test for but I know what you mean about needles I fucking hate them I had to get some blood tests done last week but came back all clear so I think the worrying about it is worse but I hope you are ok and they come back clear

Please tell them you’re scared of needles. Then they can help you.

They may offer a local anaesthetic cream. But you’re not going to be the only one who scared that day. It’s very common. Drink plenty of water, it helps.

The worst bit is when they say 'just a sharp scratch', that puts me on edge. The best nurses just talk about anything and get on with it painlessly.

I was terrified of needles as a youngster. Then I joined the army where you just got used to regular vaccinations for all sorts of weird things.

Last autumn I was admitted to hospital for 4 days. Needles were a regular thing. Some nurses were hopeless. Still got the marks 5 months later.

Make sure you are well hydrated, that will make it easier for you and the nurse, the worst thing is them struggling to find a vein, if you are not good with needles the last thing you want is the nurse having to make several attempts at it, it's not good even if you are used to it.

Drink plenty of water before

Try to eat if you can

Ask nurse to lay on bed rather than sat down

Lay with knees up

My wife is totally needle phobic to the extent that if she even sees one on TV she feels sick and breaks out in cold sweats. What a lot of people just don’t seem to get is Phobias are typically irrational fears so trying to use rational comments like “it’s only a small needle” or “the pain wont last long” do not help in the slightest. My wife knows the needles are very fine and any pain is fleeting and in the past she has been fine with them but suddenly something changed and we don’t know what.

Had my bloods taken late last year. They've always had problems finding a vein. The nurse knew me and I suggested she took it from my hand rather than prod about with my arm. She put my hand in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes first. Hardly felt the needle go in and she filled 3 phials in blood in a few seconds.

Tell them your afraid and they will do their best to distract you as it happens and calm you down with soothing talk.

Ask to lie down as well as I'm in the same boat and have blacked out in the past.

xx

Well.. I'm still here. I survived. Thanks for all your help and support.

But the nurse was so gentle and I actually didn't feel a thing.

Last year I went for a blood rest. When the nurse pushed the needle in it felt a jagged sword, then when she took it out there was a inmormous about of blood that seemed to go everywhere. Had to go have an artery stitched up, then got an infection that they could not clear up for weeks.ended up loosing an arm. But im sure you'll be fine, nothing to worry your sissy head about really.
