Guys in looong shorts, girls in micro bikinis, why?

On holiday in Australia at the moment and while the majority of girls are in weapons grade, tiny string bikinis (as a bi guy, yes, yes, yes), its still disappointing that their boyfriends wont wear anything shorter than hip to knee shorts. Why has the speedo now disappeared mostly from the beaches, unless worn by aging Europeans like me.
