Over on Reddit (not sure if allowed to mention it)

There is a long discussion thread about communal showers

Obviously a dying breed these days

People post pictures of them from uk & world wide

Fabulous discussion and brings back loads of memories plus some are of architectural beauty

Would be alllwed or come under crushing banner

Fascinating how attitudes to locker-room nudity seems to have changed, so radically, in a single generation.

Feel sorry for the younger guys as they are missing an opportunity to see what normal men look like. Too many will be unfairly self-judging based on a false comparison with guys from the worlds of porn and instagram.

I think it started in schools. I remember showering with my peers after every football or rugby match. Now my grandsons go home to shower regardless of how much mud they're covered in.

Always used them and didn't think anything about it.

Several of the sports centres kept them and for me, feels strange using showers that aren't communal

Had my first experience of a communal shower at a hotel gym. Sadly I was the only one using it 😂😂😂

When I started playing rugby for both the 6th form and a local club, a lot of places had communal baths or communal showers. The baths were fun. Roving hands under the dirty water. Showers as well as often in U-shaped 'passages' so once in you couldn't get out without squeezing past naked bodies. Everyone was shark naked. Shyness not allowed.

Then things started to change. Communal baths disappeared completely. New showers got constructed with individual cubicles. No doors but you couldn't actually see the guy showering next to you. Even saw guys--especially young guys--going into the showers wearing swimming trunks. Ruined the post-match fun completely.

Anyone old enough to remember the final results of football on bbc1 Saturday afternoons

John motson the commentator would often go into changing room of winning team to ask about the win etc

You would see blokes walking around bare arsed

Usually load of blokes sharing the communal bath too

No one made a fuss

Think people have become hypersensitive over nudity and desensitisation over doing stuff on camera & web

Love a communal shower. Always have done. If travelling with work try and find a gym or pool with them. Enjoy the atmosphere.

My gym lockers and one of the swimming pools are communal showers. Have used communal lockers and showers since school so it's been normal. Very few guys are shy about being naked or even having a casual conversation whilst naked.

I loved them at school. At the local sports hall I'd go in twice.
