The recommendation is a single dose of 200 mg (i.e., 2 x 100 mg capsules) of doxycycline, within 24 hours and no later than 72 hours after sex, and if having multiple episodes of sex to take it at the end of a 72 hour period. You're either having a shitload of sex or been wrongly advised how to take it. | |||

This is what my local NHS SH clinic advise (even though they dont supply it yet). ie if having condomless sex daily, take 200mg daily, so long as 24 hrs between doses. | |||

No, it's not, and thats not the protocol at my NHS clinic. The protocol is within 24 hrs and no later than 72 hrs after unprotected sex, and no more than 1 dose of doxy in any 24 hr period. The BASSH protocol says some people CAN CHOOSE to do a singular dose after each 72 hrs periods, but also states efficacy of that has not been tested to see if it is different, as effective or less effective. Seems they just don't know yet, and the protocol hasn't been designed with people in mind who have lots of sex. | |||

People take it for months on end for malaria prevention. Its a pretty well tolerated drug. It wasn't all that long ago that daily doxy was common on the London club scene. Maybe it still is. | |||

People take it for months on end for malaria prevention. It’s a pretty well tolerated drug. It wasn't all that long ago that daily doxy was common on the London club scene. Maybe it still is." You’re right, it is generally well tolerated. Also as you rightly say, used for malaria prevention, potentially for months on end. Ideally you don’t take constantly, the main reason being it wipes out your ‘good bacteria’, as well as the other points I made. Having said that though, like all these things, risk and reward. Benefits/ risks and the individual all have to be considered. With that in mind, perhaps long term daily (every day) is appropriate for some. | |||

"Went for my checkup earlier, Doxy pep is not rolled out in Cumbria yet, I will be at the front of the line when it is - like you say, have to look out for yourself." You can buy it, it is really very cheap. 84 tablets (ie 42 fucks) for £30. | |||

Just curious, pharmacology isn't my strong point 😄" The most common dosage for doxycycline use is 100mg at a time for treating infections | |||

"Been for my 3 monthly check up today, have been on daily prep for a couple of years without any side effects at all. I was offered Doxycycline as an extra precaution, my biggest concern was the overuse of antibiotics, however this was quashed when the dosage was explained, it's basically 2 tablets within 24-72 hrs after sexual activity. Can't do too much to protect yourself in my opinion, I just wish everyone would do the same. " Spot on | |||
