I see there's a possible loophole for the doomed peers to stay in the H O L.

What a farce

Getting rid of the remaining hereditary peers, many of who were active, experienced and knowledgeable members, just gives more opportunity to pack in more political cronies. So what seems logical and more democratic is unlikely to be an improvement.

"We need two elected houses"

We are shit at picking one elected house, if we had to have two, we are double fucked.

Now in some instances that would be great, but not in this case.

While we're at it, let's abolish the concept of the Lords Spiritual.

If they want a place in the legislative process , then let them fight for it in the Commons

Can you think of a reason anyone suitable would bother to stand for election? Most will have better things to do.

And how many would bother to vote?

I would suggest abolishing the House of Lords, and replacing it with an elected second chamber. I would also suggest they use the system used for the Scottish Parliament. Which is designed to disallow or at the very least inhibit an overall majority for one party.

The second chamber would then become a proper reviewing chamber. Not a care home for failed politicians, political donors, or hangers on. It could be elected on a seven year cycle and replacements in case of death or incapacity of members could be coopted from the non elected candidates from their losing lists. So no costly bye elections

Didn’t BoJo give his twenty something typist a seat in the Lords? She gets £300 just for walking through the doors even if she only stays for a coffee.
