"WFH worked well in 2020"

People need people, people aren't as dynamic when confined to silos.

By all means work from home a few days a week but the exchange of ideas in a communal space is also important.

I've been thinking this for a few years, given China's expansionist actions in the S China Sea and overt claim on Taiwan. Making a move while the US is occupied elsewhere would make perfect strategic sense for them.

Not only this but China invest in foreign aid, they call it the belt and road initiative.

Countries will owe them a lot, they've built roads and ports throughout Asia and Africa.

Another thing the right have got wrong, investing in other countries not only bought us influence, it kept us safe through keeping other countries stable.

Our loss is China and Russia's gain

The rulers in Iran are not the nicest people but they have kept going far longer than the US and Israel anticipated. If the Iranians start bombing water desalination plants in the Gulf the house of cards will become very precarious.

I bet you regret not getting an electric car now.

Most busses are electric and cheep . Ok it costs £3 into town but driving you've got petrol tax, insurance, and don't forget the car park fees. Busses will drop you at the top of the high street you can go in every shop and the bus will pick you up at the bottom of the high street.

No one is defending the Ayatollahs!

It's a disgusting repressive regime. However, if you're going to bomb one of the most oppressive regimes known to man.

You better make sure you've got a plan for both regime change and the Strait of Hormuz!

Instead we've got a weak president listening to 40 year old fever dreams of an equal nutter called netenyahu

Yep, and they'll have first call on the mineral and energy resources from all those countries too. No surprise that China's now the world leader in EVs. Lithium and cobalt etc will be the new crude oil pretty soon.

I don't like the fact you've quoted me out of context.

I understand why people do it but choosing what you like or dislike and commenting on it out of context disterbs me.

But you are correct, it's another avenue the right are trying to march is down!

Oil will play a role in life during my lifetime, it's in plastics, clothes, even medicine!!

However, trying to move away is the best option for energy independence, and slowly find solutions for other things in the future.

I used to own a Honda 125 motorcycle.

The little cost to run it blew my mind. £15 a year tax. Park in the middle of Cardiff/ town for free and the petrol consumption ... Well...

The Honda CB125F is exceptionally fuel-efficient, with official figures often exceeding 150-188 mpg (WMTC mode) for newer models. Real-world riding generally yields between 100 and 150+ mpg depending on speed, with a potential range of over 400 miles from its 11-litre tank.

I said right at the beginning of this foolish escapade that there would fuel rationing before it’s all over. Yes, I’ve got a bus pass, but there’s no buses where I live. I guess I’m going to have to learn to live in isolation.

Can we all take a second, I haven't heard rationing mentioned for Britain (as of yet). I'm fairly convinced (famous last words) it won't come to this. Trump will chicken out. He can't stomach a global recession with oil at or clos to $200 a barrel

Yeah it's interesting, I can't make up my mind.

I personally think he will TACO because he's being increasingly isolated and the world will face recession because of him and netenyahu if oil goes to $200 a barrel.

What have the Iranians got to loose?

Definitely an option.

Again not sure it would help. Iran produce oil so bombing them would contribute to the nightmare $200 a barrel.

I neither like not dislike what you said, and went to the effort of snipping dead wood out of my quote as the crucial point was Belt & Road, and my opinion is that China has been very canny investing in mineral-rich but cash-poor countries, knowing what the payback will be.
