I can remember walking down Downing Street back in the 1980s. Was absolutely deserted.

The door of No. 10 can only be opened from the inside. I wonder if the last person in there ever left, by mistake, and someone had to break in to gain access.

Public access to Downing Street ended in 1989 when stricter security measures were introduced.

Makes me think of the episode of “Yes, Priminister” where Hacker has the lock changed to prevent Applebe letting himself in from the Cabinet Office through the connecting door.

Yes, there must be a 'tradesmans entrance'. Otherwise it would be such a palaver for the Amazon guy.

I think the tradesman’s entrance is at number eleven.

Rawcliffe Bridge.

I wonder why they have turned number 10 and number 11 into fortresses, and all that time ago too?

Did "they" see something coming?

i think the 1980's IRA tactic of leaving cars and vans full of explosives outside busy public buildings and blowing them up might have given them quite a strong hint.

Although even as late as 1991, they still managed to launch three mortar shells at No 10 in an attempt to assassinate John Major and his cabinet. Four people were injured and a lot of damage resulted, despite attempts to harden bomb proofing.

Not to mention their other assassinations and the Brighton bomb.

Walked freely down Downing Street in the '70s. Was a bit unimpressed. Looked very ordinary. I believe its a bit like the Tardis. Looks small outside but enormous inside as the official rooms and offices are at the back.

I assume that must be an auto correct error. Should have been 'sending clowns' and not 'sending drones'

An interesting question... Flying a drone down Downing Street is a guaranteed way to be arrested within minutes. As one of the most restricted patches of airspace in the United Kingdom, the area is blanketed by sophisticated counter-drone technology, including RF sensors, radar, and AI-powered cameras that detect unauthorised signals instantly. If you attempted this, security forces would likely use electronic jamming to hijack the flight or force the drone to land, while ground teams would be dispatched to your location immediately. Entering such a "prohibited place" is a major criminal offence that carries a potential sentence of up to 14 years in prison if deemed a threat. Even if you claim it was an accident, you would face the permanent confiscation of your equipment, massive fines, and a likely detention under anti-terrorism laws. You would quickly realise that the protections around the Prime Minister's residence make such a flight impossible to complete without life-altering consequences, and you would likely spend the rest of the day apologising to the Metropolitan Police from a custody cell.
