Any mechanics here can maybe advise on an issue I'm having pretty please

My Audi SQ5, the engine oil seems to be increasing?

There's no actual oil dipstick it's checked on the screen inside. Which says please reduce oil level.

Any suggestions 😘

Either fuel or water leaking into the sump. So if the coolant level is dropping then there you go, if not it's fuel, potentially explosive mixture eventually. Get it checked out at your garage sooner rather than later.if it's coolant it will make a horrid emulsion and it's a bugger to clean out, many oil and filter changes. Speaking as a retired mechanic.

While it may not come with a dipstick, it should still have a port for one, so if you get an aftermarket dipstick you should be able to check manually. The port for a physical dipstick is located at the front of the engine, usually near the radiator, covered by a black plastic cap.

At least that way you can confirm the amount of oil in the engine which if normal would indicate an electronic or sensor fault.

I think you need to get it checked at a garage, could be many things from an electrical fault to oil being over filled, has it recently been serviced?

Well the coolant seems to be fine, it's on the max mark where it always has been. So looks like fuel then, yeah thanks I'll call in tomorrow after work and speak to them.

I concur with the last poster.

Hard to know as you have no dipstick. You might get a hint if you open the oil filler cap on the rocker cover.lfits creamy gunge, then it's coolant.

Ahh OK I didn't know that, that's annoying if it has somewhere for a dipstick then why not just use one! Rather than make it overly complicated lol. I'll take a look

If your lucky it could just be a fault level sensor as suggested above.needs checking out to avoid potential engine damage. Stitch in time .....

It might be a dpf issue

If your only doing short journeys it's not doing a full regen and therefore fuel goes into the oil get a oil and filter done asap and then give it a good run to regen it

Well tbh I hardly use it, as I use my work can for work. So only use the car at weekends and I don't exactly do really short journeys, minimum it will do is 20 miles in a journey? Or is that classed as short?

I'm an auto electrician.

Done these before.

We drain the oil from the engine then measure how much has come out.

9/10 it's the correct amount.

We find these oilmlevel sensors go bad after awhile.

Take it to a main dealer and they should do what we do.

When I was in the taxi industry, colleagues with Audis over about 7 yrs suffered greatly mechanically but Ford Mondeos went on forever. I had a MK3 that was on 400k and I only got rid as it reached 10 years and couldn’t be licensed after that age.

A lot of modern diesels have exhaust emission systems that dump excess unburnt fuel into the oil. It’s all part of meeting the emission regs…

It usually works out that the level increase only becomes an issue if the oil change intervals are exceeded..!

That's why I like my 08 Nissan. Cheap as chips, well over 100k on it now but it still runs clean and quiet, flies the MOT on emissions every year, and although it does have engine management electronics it doesn't have too many and decent back street mechanics can still service it easily and fairly cheaply.

I read that, her car was on 40k, ridiculous blanket requirement.

Eg a 9 year old car may be a right old shed that’s never been properly serviced is deemed ok due to age but hers is not.🫤

If car is a diesel and engine oil level is rising over time it can be due to the particulate filter regeneration , get oil and filter changed and fill to correct level and get car scanned for poss faults

UPDATE..

called at my garage after work and the plugged their fancy machine in, and it looks like an injector or possibly 2 are over fuelling.

He said the dpf thingy reads OK and Dosnt seem concerned it's that. So it's going to hospital on Friday to be sorted hopefully.

Thanks everyone for helping me, I'll let you know how it is when it's done 😘

"Same injectors as Skoda, same company, same engines!"

Apart the the Aat, Audi added tax. And VW are not cheap to service or maintain. As you say scoota use the same parts as owned by VW but somehow manage to do the same things for much less.why should the badge on the bonnet make a difference? Can help thinking that VW perceive Audi owners to be better off than the owners of their other brands.

Both Audi (& BMW) can justify this by the amazing, premium quality electrical components they use... despite all my years in the trade, I have yet to see one fail the MOT with a blown indicator bulb!

Is it diesel or petrol?

If its a diesel and for some reason its failing to regen then the fuel can end up mixing with the oil causing the oil level to increase.

On the other hand if its a petrol hybrid mainly PHEV then as the engine charges the battery it will stop.the engine automatically once the battery is fully charged these constant stop start result in fuel mixing with the oil, my cars doing that I have a Merc C350e and its pretty common on these.

With that said most cars are stop start now and if your journey entail a ot of that constant pressuring stopping and repressurising has the same effect, we see it quite a lot not, I wood say its much more common on a diesel where its not regenning properly.

Defo regen fault. When a dpf regen is occurring, the engine overfuels to create heat. If it is continuallt trying to regen, but not succeeding, the fuel ends up in the sump. This diluted the engine oil, and isnt very good on timing chains and guides. Reasons for the regen not finishing is either, journey too short, or a dpf issue. It needs an oil change, then somebody with a good diagnostic machine and knowledge to run live data, and see if there is a reason.

EV? Really?! No where near enough infrastructure for it, Where's all the electric coming from if everyone did buy EV?

My friend has an elactric transit, bought new last year free road tax, this year he now pays £300 Road tax. EV are an absolute scam!
