Can someone explain saunas to me...Never been to one and am intrigued about what it entails. Is it literally just somewhere that has a few saunas you go sit in and have sex with whoever is interested, or is it a health club type of place where there is a gym etc and you see if maybe you get lucky? I assume it's a male only setup specifically for hookups? What are the rules of engagement and etiquette when you visit one?

Usually a sauna, steam room and a hot tub as a minimum. Plenty of cruising areas and public sex spaces. Some have private cubicles. Wear a towel or go naked it’s up to you.

As above. Most saunas are equipped with steamrooms, dry saunas, jacuzzi etc. My local one has a locker room as well as private cabins, cruising area, dark room and a cinema room. Also bar/cafe area. Treat is as a day spa, expect nothing and any sex is a bonus. If guys approach you feel free to say 'No thanks' if that is how you feel. Always trust your gut feeling about gys. If it doesn't feel right don't do it

It's the former, it's a space that has saunas, steam rooms etc, but is primarily a space for having sex - don't expect to be having a workout or getting a salt scrub

The advice to treat your first time as a day at a (somewhat seedy) spa is spot on. The big difference being, everyone is male, and there for sex - no one is going to lamp you if you flirt. Go with low expectations just to see the lay of the land.

When you're walking around the place, be prepared for lots of eye contact. When you're in the jacuzzi, be prepared for someone to start playing footsy or put a hand on your thigh. If the person isn't your type, a pilot "no" is all that's needed. Many saunas have glory hole cabins where you can go and suck or be sucked anonymously.

But yeah, really, just get that first visit under your belt and you'll be fine.

Eg SweatBox just off Oxford Street can be very dirty but full of younger guys.

The Stables in Covent Garden, smaller than SweatBox but 100 times cleaner and more relaxing.

Don’t step foot in the one in Kennington, it will put you off gay saunas for life.

German, Dutch and Scandinavian do the spa gay sauna experience best in the bigger cities.

I go to Touch Sauna Swindon, it has a small steam room and sauna, a 2 man hot tub/jacuzzi and some showers, the rest of the place, which is most of it is for cruising, there are a couple of slings, some pizza ovens, some private rooms a dark area, a seating area to watch gay porn and a bar.

Covent Garden Health Spa is quite small but also quite upscale with fairly high quality clientele. Pleasuredrome at Waterloo is much bigger, wide range of types and ages and also very good facilities. Both are licensed if you need a sharpener!

Yes, they'll have a sauna and steamrooms. Plus showers may be a hot tub but it'll be a discreet club for guys of all ages (mostly older), to hang out in, and hopefully get some man action. Whether thats soft play or full on fucking, thats between you and whoever else is there

It's definitely not a gym with extras....

The term sauna is a euphemism for an indoor space for cruising others of the same sex and fulfilling the deed either in public or private

Some establishments have full additional facilities eg sauna room, steam room and jacuzzi and oerhaps an extra massage service but some fail miserably

The level of cleanliness varies widely.

Expect nothing, keep an open kind and remember to pick up your dignity on the way out.

PS. IMHO E15 is a shithole and not worth the cost of the trip never mind the entry fee
