They are very trendy these days... you're more of a rebel if you don't have one now...even face tattoos seem to be acceptable..back in the 80s it was just dodgy boneheads that had them...

That’s completely different, that’s cultural.

By your reasoning, tattoos used by criminal gangs around the world, like the Japanese Yakuza, have tattoos just to look pretty or that it is cultural.

Not the case, in the Yakuza example, it is to signify hierarchy and the more brutal, the more tattoos.

Your ignorance in assuming everyone with a tattoo(you didn't state different in your first post) has mental health issues is narrow minded and frankly insulting. Tattoos are known to aid in self esteem and be acts of self expression.

People get tattoos for all manner of reasons. In some cases it may be mental problems or low esteem but not most cases. I do wonder why some people get tattoos that they cannot cover up e.g. hands, neck face. I've got 5 tattoos: 2 on each arm and one on my back. If I wear a long sleeve shirt no one knows they are there. Don't regret having them and they haven't faded much.

If they are on show e.g. face, they could seriously damage your job prospects. Had a porter wheeling me about in hospital last year. Lovely guy. Had a full neck tattoo but it made his head look as if it was floating on a forest! Otherwise he was very handsome.

They seem to have become a bit of a fashion statement over the last 20/30 years. When I was in the army, '70s/'80s, I would say 80% of servicemen had them but very few civilians.
