I'm not fat shaming. The word Obese is offensive and should not be used in this forum to describe a person's body. I will not be using it again.

It's our word. We can use it if we want.

Another case of taking a word that's in common usage and declaring that it should not be used.

It's a clinical term with a rigidly defined meaning.

I'm not even sure why this would be used an offensive term. Or where; I'm not even sure if I've ever seen it used in this context.

So what word would you suggest ?

Persons of larger body size perhaps ?

No one has ever shouted "you obese bastard at me"

Too many snowflakes in this world who are not happy unless they are offended by something.

People can use whatever words or word they want so long as it's not directed at someone to cause offense. Leave the policing to the site mods.

Some words are offensive regardless of being directed at people, and are not welcome here.

Chonker is a great word !

But obese is a well known, well understood word used within health care settings. Not offensive at all.

This is at least the second thread you've jumped in on trying to police which words people use. Words that don't even apply to you. Baiting much?

Up until yesterday I was happy to use the word f@t. Another site user has since informed me that it's highly offensive and use of the word is not permitted.

I describe myself as fat and obese. That's because -I- use that word.

If somebody would tell me, "you look nice, I like fat guys", I'm not sure how I would take it.

Languages are fascinating.

That's how I feel about being called queer or faggot. I would never accept it from a heterosexual, but would from a fellow follower of the yellow brick road

Words can be offensive if intention is there to cause upset. Words in themselves are not, particularly words that describe. You dont get to police what people say. And thanks for the private message, with your myopic, ill-informed, judgemental and immature opinion about bareback sex. Go you. You blocked me so I cant respond. I wouldn't have responded anyway.

Just to be clear that it was not me that messaged you. And, clearly, you're right.
