Our species appears to be the only one that ponders upon life's meaning.

Possibly because we're the only species that doesn't instinctively know the answer already.

It’s masturbation in the middle aisle at Aldi reading a copy of the FT whilst urinating into a plant pot quoting Shakespeare.

It got me ten years but I saw the light.

"Our species appears to be the only one that ponders upon life's meaning.

Indeed! I wonder if perhaps the answer's beyond our grasp. The concept of the meaning of life may be a phenomenon far greater than even the most brilliant of human minds can comprehend or contain in this existence.

Maybe in another time, another place, or another dimension, all will become clear in a moment of revelation. In that instant, all the unknowns of our current lives will make the most perfect of perfect sense.

In this life, however, we can only stand in awesome wonder; it may well be that we simply do not have the capacity of comprehension to realise and appreciate the wider meaning of our existence.

As I'm an atheist, no religious meaning of life for me. Although I know for many it's what they believe, that's okay, I'm not here to criticise. As an atheist, how can there be a meaning to life. Do the things that bring enjoyment, to yourself and others, have a fulfilling life. Treating others as you would like to be treated. No 2nd chance, so make the most of the time you have

We're a species, like any other, we just exist. The difference with us is that we're capable of logical thought, we are aware of our own mortality, therefore we question our existence. Hope is an abstract concept and we "hope" or assume there's a meaning to all this.

There isn't, make the best of what you've got, feather your nest, be kind....that's it. Lol.

There is no meaning.

Were the only species that's developed a brain able to question things.

We're just mammals the same as all the others we exist for a while then die.

The end

"Surely death is the meaning of life ,which is why you should enjoy it as much as you can, while you can ."

I agree.

But our capability of knowing we die puts pressure on us to enjoy the time we have.

Look at a dog for example, it exists in the moment always exited or tired.

Our brain can introspect, our brain knows Italy or Australia exists and wants to explore.

Therefore, our brain tricks it self to think that we are better and wants "meaning".

Ultimately we aren't anything more than the dog, flesh and bones and our time is finite.

We're just aware of how finite it is and question it's meaning.

But there isn't any

No it's a "Catch-22" :- You cannot claim until you have met the criteria, but once you meet the criteria, you are no longer in a position to claim! Death can be fatal!
