Beatles were ok, and yes, rhey did pave the way for many bands that followed. But lets face it, the songs and music they produced were never great. Really over hyped, the only band that were hyped hp more than the Beatles was Oasis, another band who's songs and music was mediocre at its best.

Got to agree here.

I've never seen what people say in them tbh.

I was massively into them in my early teens. Yes, in terms of the years they were together and writing, recording and developing music, the evolved unbelievably and changed things immensely; but there is no new output and to my mind the last single was just a way to try to capitalise with new technology on something completely unfinished. If they'd stayed together and had the career of the Rolling Stones it would be interesting to see how that would have continued. But that didn't happen, so we'll never know.

Undeniably influential but we have collectively moved on without them.

I can name 2 bands better.

1 Velvet Underground, overlooked at the time massively influential especially for post punk, shoegaze, post rock

2 The Stooges, reviled and ignored in their heyday, were punk even before punk was a thing, laid down the blueprint for everything that came after.

Fleetwood Mac were/are better than the Beatles.

I like Lennon’s solo stuff and Wings were brilliant.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Queen.

Music is very subjective, and as such you can’t have a best or worst. You can have only personal favourites.

The Beatles were probably one of the most influential, because of the way they influenced the masses and had many bands follow their lead.

But then so we’re Bill Haley and the Comets or Lonnie Donegans skiffle group, Glen Miller's Band or the Sex Pistols. These never get brought up as greatests but all of them changed the face of music at their time.

Music is subjective, personal favourites, and with me what mood I'm in. And all bands would have their own influences going back to blues, country and jazz. I just can't see a lot of modern music and artists having the staying power. It's all about image and the now. Majority of music is also over produced and even " live" doesn't mean live singing anymore, live is just the performance to heavily produced and auto tuned tracks that are lip synced to.

It’s just too subjective. I was born in 52 and enjoyed the Rock and Roll era and all of the 60’s. The created for and by The Beatles was exciting and inspirational for many young musicians, myself included and I was equally a Beatles and early Stones fan.

It’s absolutely no good trying to push one or two favourites forward because one man’s meat is another man’s poison.

People are putting personal taste ahead of the fact that all the bands you like would not exist without the the influence of The Beatles.

No band will ever be more influential to the fabric of music...

Have never owned or actively listened to much of what the Beatles produced so they have had no influence on me in any way really. Velvet Underground however are a different story

Many bands have influenced many others there is no one band to influence all most musicians have a wide verity .

One in particular I like

The traveling wilburys all great musicians in there own right as well and the groups they came from who indeed must have influenced other bands

What about the American r n b and rock n roll singers that they took inspiration from?No Little Richard-no Beatles.

Personally Cream,Jimi Hendrix,Black Sabbath and Funkadelic made more influence in the music world without the hype machine relying on talent not marketing and promotion.

Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Lonnie Donegan were all huge influences on Paul McCartney and John Lennon. They both said that without Donegan they would have thought it was possible to go into the music industry.

So without these 3 (possibly more) there may never have been a Beatles, so surely they are all as influential.

And if you’re talking about influential musician/singers, then you have to throw Presley in there, even though he’s not a group he did have a backing band. Listen to popular music pre ‘54 and compare it to ‘55 onwards and it’s completely different.
