Just having a conversation of when we were not racers back in the 90’s in our late teens and early twenties and the nights we sat in car parks in the middle of nowhere talking rubbish about the girls when we were both horny and went home frustrated but didn’t realise we were bi or gay in some cases. Lean bodies, stamina for days 😂🙈 what wasted times

I had a RS turbo & a RS2000 at the same time. At the time it was one of the few turbos that had 17s on it a & Koni adjustables. I had to get the arches rolled out so the tyres wouldn’t rub 😂. It was mercury grey and the 2000 was a deep metallic green. I sold the turbo and purchased a very rare 1 of 500 Ford Racing Pumas. I still wished I had all three 💰💰💰

Hope the OP doesn’t mind, it’s more about boy racers of today rather than the 90’s as it seems to be only a fairly recent phenomena of the past few years.

Why do some young men today put their front reg plate on their dashboard? 🫤

Google gives differing reasons but none too convincing.

Mad when you think about it. Trying to get to 120mph in a Citroen Saxo. You wouldn't even have been able to donate your kidneys.

Notable cars I had in the 90s, Cavalier SRi automatic, Mitsubishi Gallant 2.0 GLS, Granada 2.9i Ghia and V6 Ford Probe, not really boy racer stuff.

Mine went back twice under warranty for worn gearbox / engine mounts. The engine would pull very hard from 70mph. Very little weight and 127 bhp on tap.

What scared me was on snow and ice little weight on big standard tyres it would not stop and on that occasion I abandoned it and walked to work!

I had an Astra 1.4i 16v around the turn of the century (just to make everything seem old lol)

It was like shit off a shovel getting away and flew down motorways. I was a bit old to be a boy racer, but I did love it.

The Saxo, Pug 104, Nova generation gained their wheels when the car manufacturers foolishly offered free car insurance for their little shit box entry level offerings.

Maybe smoking , 90’s was popular for magics too? Just park up, get shitfaced listening to tune.

Then go home a few hours later.

Regular thing to do back then at that age at that time.

No real social media to sit at home on a screen in those days so we went out to the pub instead or if just driving gathered in groups in car parks to socialise and show off.

I’m a little bit older than that generation being late twenties / early thirties but my cars of note in the 90s were an Astra 16v, Citroen ZX Volcane, Punto GT Turbo and to celebrate the millennium (really not sure why now) a yellow Puma 1.7

I was an 80’s boy racer. Mk1 Golf GTI

Audi Coupe Quattro.

90’s I was riding Motorbikes instead in full black leather.

I was going to cruising areas in my cars

So had lots of sex with truckers

None of this talking and wishing.

Mine were all Fords, the one we’re not allowed to mention mk 1, 2 and 3 and two Pumas not FRP’s though.

I couldn’t afford the sporty versions so had to beef up standard cars. Fat exhausts, Weber carbs, k&n filters

A whole bunch us me and mates used to spend our evenings racing around between various watering holes, how any of us are still alive is a miracle when looking back, didn't even wear seat belts

The RS2000 was a 95 Mk 6. I got got brand new as an everyday drive. Nothing as iconic as the mk1 & 2s obviously but still fun.

The FRP was a money pit. It was a gorgeous wide bodied car but had a turning circle of an oil tanker 😂 out of all of them I wished I had stored it rather than sold it.

Kent or Piper camshafts too. If you've got the money, ported and polished manifolds and cylinder heads.

I was never a boy racer. Best I managed was 140 in Belgium in an Omega V6, 110 in France in the same (but towing a trailer tent), and 120 on the M2, for which I got the most colossal verbal bollocking off a traffic cop who was fortunately off duty and driving home
