Obviously they can work in any field they like these days, but some careers seem to attract more gay men than others, why is this? Ones that spring to mind are:

TV & Film, Media in general, Hotel and other hospitality, NHS, Travel especially air crew, fashion etc. Any more?

NHS I would say is a good career for gay guys. I’ve come across (not literally) quite a few really nice guys who work or have worked in hospitals. My last stay in hospital was made so much better by the gay nurse who really looked after me and made my stay a whole lot more bearable. Thanks Tony… yeah you with the cute arse 😉🤭😘

Hairdressing and fashion seem popular with the more camp gay guys. Hospitality varies. I worked in one very upmarket country house hotel and there were 7 of us who were gay or lesbian. Other hotels none. You get gays in all walks of life. When younger I was in the army at a time when being gay was illegal. Not what you would instantly call a 'gay career' but it was amazing how many gays were in the army. Also come across quite a few gay farmers and truckers. Again not traditional gay careers.

I'm not sure, however the question is about jobs/careers that seem to attract gay men. There are some stereotypical roles of course, however I was previously unaware that a lot of gays work in HR.

This post stereotypes like crazy. You just notice camp and flamboyant gay guys in the typical workplaces like flight attendant or hairdresser. I dislike the woke agenda and ‘the scene’, but ignorant posts like this do irk me. Gay people do any job.

"Tradies - have you seen all the OnlyFans vids"

There's so many tradies that play with men. I get offers all the time. They are generally closeted or don't share their sexuality with work mates because it's quite a homophobic environment. But , I do know a few tradies that are openly gay.

With regards to specific jobs that attract the gays. With working for airlines and cruises, it simply suits the gay lifestyle - travel, party, adventure , play. I suppose a stereotype in itself but whatever.... Go ask a gay flight attendant and he will tell you himself probably.

As for other roles, I think the gays are just more comfortable in their sense of self. Professions that are more associated with women, straight men tend to steer away from. But, that would also be for a number of factors, like how we are socialised towards certain roles in society (toys pushed on us as kids), culture, family expections, women are annoying to work with (lol) etc.

Nursing is a good example. I considered it a long time ago but steered away because being a male nurse is generally linked with being gay. At the time I cared about blending in and feeling safe more than what I actually wanted to study/work as.

Ironically, nursing was traditionally a male dominated role for hundreds of years.

The colour pink was once associated with baby boys as it's a bolder , more vibrant colour than soft, calming, baby blue. It's funny how things shift around.

It's actually quite sad that men being in more caring professions is linked with being gay or effeminate, because a lot of men do just have those qualities or personality types. It's not a gay thing.

I had some male teachers in primary school and they really were fantastic. They just cared, motivated, modelled behaviours, disciplined etc a bit differently. I think it's a male thing, not a sexuality thing. And even that's a generalisation.

There's no one answer to this question I suppose. But, society does miss out when a profession/sector is dominated by one gender. Male teachers are quite rare now. Gay or straight is irrelevant, for many kids , school is the one place they may have a positive male role model.

The same goes for social workers, age care, mental health, any role with kids tbh. Women dominated with desperate need for males. And yes , many of the males are gay there too.

With casual meets we very often don't know what they do for a living. However with some of the more regular ones we get to know and it is a variety of jobs. My last fairly regular guy was a ground worker and would visit me on his way home wearing his muddy hi-viz trousers and boots. My longest term FWB was a professional brickie. Another fairly regular young guy worked in a recycling plant. Yet another was a carpenter. Two were bus drivers. Also been with a surveyor, a policeman, several members of the armed forces, a farmer and a chef.

"you can work in whatever field you like

Although considered a very straight, family oriented profession there are a few gay/bi farmers about. My first ever gay kiss was with a young farmer and my first full sex was with a farm worker. A friend of mine is an agricultural contractor. He's had a few experiences over the years including a fairly regular one with a married farmer's son.

I feel like the only gay in the village in my field sometimes. Financial services has lots of weirdos in the technical side, but very few (openly) LGBT.

Just thinking about it out of 100 or so data scientists in my company, I'm the only openly gay one.

A friend's son has just started on a farm. He went to his first yf ball and came back with a male friend. He's been with a farmer who bought him a full maid's outfit and fishnets.

He's loving it.

So many times they seem to have the right promotional prospects!
