The Prick and my Vitamin Injection

Got a call from my GP today telling me my B12 levels were not where they should be, so to go to the chemist and get some B12 pills.

After 3 chemists that don’t stock them, the third said ‘we do offer it as an injection which lasts for 3 months - it’s a private prescription which costs £25’

I thought about it for a few moments and thought why the hell not, I don’t have to worry about it after that - so did it.

A little while later I mentioned it to my sister and she said ‘oh I can prescribe that!’ So she secured me a further 5 pricks for £21 - just shows the mark up chemists make for a private prescription and the 30 seconds it takes to jab you!

I am confused... it is not a prescription item, & if you have injections, it is one every second day.

Vitamin B12 pills are no good.

You need an injection. I get one every 3 months, the nurse will do this at your local doctors surgery for free.

If you’re levels are very low for two weeks you need alternate jabs…tablets are not prescription, injections are.

Yeah - my sister said your gastric tract renders them practically useless!

Vitamin B12 pills are only no good if you have issues absorbing it, such as Crohn's disease or pernicious anaemia, if you simply lack it in your diet (vegans) pills work perfectly well.
