I am the exact opposite. Right next door is perfect and as for embarrassment that’s very soon not going to be a problem. It’s safer when you know exactly who people are.

In my rural location there’s rarely anyone closer than 9 or 10 miles away, but once or twice I’ve seen guys very close in my village and I know who they are. Also works the other way around and I think a member of my family knows I’m on here. Oooops! But they haven’t said anything to me .
