Waterlooville at night

I'm putting together my CD clothing site, and I wondered which display format I should prioritise. I'm using a responsive market template, and that looks best on a laptop. However, I feel that most users are likely to use mobile phones to view the site.

To all TVs and CDs - what would be your preferred device to view the catalogue.

Thanks for the replies. I need to be in desktop mode to use the maintenance panel. Desktop mode is also useful for displaying category indices and product photos. Mobile mode seems to be good for simple listings ( with photos ), and would be OK for specific item searches. Browsing would be much more comfortable on a notebook.

What do you guys use for online shopping. Using a mobile phone seems to be very cumbersome and restrictive.

Mobile - it's the simplest way these days - most sites have a mobile site - a bit like this one

If you're putting tohether a website surely you want to make it versatile so all devices can access it readily.

I'm using a responsive shopping CMS to build the site, and it covers all formats. However, I need to consider bandwidth on both the service and my readers device. I also need to consider image format. For example, the fixed images use SVG, and this recalibrates the shape and size of the image. This enables it to display correctly on 40" TVs and 6" mobiles, however there is a storage and processing cost associated with this. The tradititional JPG and PNG formats can be more efficient. I'll probably use JPG for product images, as I just need to crop them and use the image directly from the camera. Mobiles are becoming more sophisticated, and range from mickey mouse screens to triple foldable ones.

My gut feeling is that I should build a catalogue for users with 14" notebooks, and allow the CMS to resize to suit the viewers device. I may have to reconsider this if I decide to expand the site.

Using a mobile for GFX is like looking into room through a keyhole... Use 27" wide display to get the whole picture; why torture yaself?

I'm getting the hang of this software. It's rewally designed for the sale of product ranges, and not individual second hand items. This makes it a bit onerous to add categories as well as the products. I'm quite pleased with it though, and I'll probably use it to generate a bit of fun, rather than attempt to make my fortune.

I guess I need to find some models now, or maybe I'll experiment with AI generation if I get the time.

Why would I want to do that? There is no capital gain in using somebody else's platform. As I mentioned, the item sales are secondary to other considerations. I've used Ebay for years, and these days I just use it for purchases. I looked at Vinted, but I didn't like the payment options.

What makes you say that. The website is live right now. I'm just playing with the layout, the back office, and trying out a few product images. It's an interesting intellectual exercise, and I'm not rushing it, especially as there is not much peer enthusiasm for it.

Sounds like you're trying to reinvent the wheel, OK so the sales aren't important to you- what's the point of trying to create an e-commerce site?

To answer the original question..

For fabguys, almost always mobile as you don't lose any functionality.

For xhamster, it's crap. You can't check out profiles or favourites properly, for example.

Just sell socks at car boot.

Much less hassle by the sound of it and more people wear socks.
