What I would say is don’t take too much in your mouth at the start.

Begin by gripping the shaft and wank the cock slowly.

Depending if the cock is cut or uncut either run your tongue slowly around the head paying attention to the japs eye and the frenulum as that should make them moan, or if uncut get your tongue inside the foreskin and do the same thing and you’ll soon find it getting hard.
