Lesbian bars

Was over in Birmingham shopping at the weekend, ended up in a gay bar that i had not been to before that had been recommended.

Got talking to a couple of girls in there and they were telling me how it used to be a lesbian bar (hence why they were in there). But over the last few years it had been taken over by the men and the lesbians pushed out. Similar happening in lots of lesbian bars

Got me thinking about the whole argument about single sex spaces for women. Should we not be leaving the lesbians their own bars and what causes gay men to take them over.

What are everyone elses thoughts?

How financially viable is a lesbian bar that won't permit men? Do lesbians want to hang out in bars? Lots of bars are closing across the UK as drinking habits change

Agree with this. In the same way lots of gay bars would fold without hen dos etc tagging on to bring in extra cash.

Interesting point about the Hen do's. Had not thought about that. Guessing Lesbian bars don't have the similar revenue stream from stag do's!!

A lot of places have struggled to survive since the pandemic. Specific bars like gay men's and lesbian ones have been very hard hit. Those that have survived seem to longer to be exclusive either

In my personal experience over 60 years, it's never been a good idea to mix gay men, lesbians and alcohol in a confined space
