"Too embarrassed to say how many time before I pass my car test. Put a lot of it down to a bad instructor who made me nervous. Passed advanced first time and also motorbike first time." My first instructor was terrible, really short fuse kind of bloke and I realised after about three lessons he was just stressing me out so found a much better one and passed first time as above. Most of my lessons were done in a bog slow non-turbo diesel Rover 218, but just before the test my instructor got a turbocharged Citroen ZX and it felt like a rocketship to me

A stressy, bad tempered bloke. After a couple of failed tests I gave up driving for a year. I'd passed my motorbike test so had transport. Had joined the army by then and was driving all sorts of vehicles. Took the civilian test and sailed through it first thing on a foggy, icy November morning. BTW I had to do an emergency stop and a hill-start as a result of a dog running into the road. The examiner was impressed.
