EATING ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Why do passengers insist on eating on public transport, especially the London Underground ??

Enough fuss was made about smoking and it was finally banned, alcohol is SUPPOSEDLY banned, why not food.

I gave just seen a passenger eat her breakfast of assorted mush from a plastic box with a spoon. Get up earlier and eat at home like normal people do.

I don't do public transport, so it doesn't bother me - it wouldn't even if I did - why do people get so uptight at things that let's face it don't gravely impact you

Because most people are degenerate savages who can't eat on public transport without stinking the place out, making an ungodly mess everywhere, and leaving their trash behind.

Since dining cars are no longer available it’s perfectly acceptable to eat an impromptu sandwich meal on a train, but fish and chips or curry might be rather inconsiderate .

Absolutely, it's disheartening to see such lack of consideration in public spaces. The same disregard for others is evident in cafes and restaurants, where some patrons leave their tables in disarray, leaving others to deal with the aftermath.

If everyone left the train or bus spotless the cleaners would be made redundant, their children will starve, they will lose their house, they will end up in a cramped B&B, living on benefits which you, being lucky to still have a job, will be paying for.

And you are moaning about a few crumbs? My god, are you a monster? 🤦‍♂️

Agree. Don't think it would bother me too much. Personally not keen on eating whilst travelling even on train diner car or ferries.

Most awkward thing about it is the poor butler having to stand next to me and balance his silver salver whilst the 49 bus lurches over potholes.

I just got the totally wrong message from this thread,

I had visions of a demanding fellow traveler legs akimbo, crotch less panties , welcoming all comers while doing a pretty good take off of the vocals in Harry met Sally diner scene.

But I don’t suppose you see that often on the Elizabethan line

My mum is diabetic and she usually manages it well. However if we are on a long journey using public transport and she needs to eat she'll always have something to keep her going. Sometimes its a necessity and can't always be helped

It wouldn't bother me as long as they are not messy or eating loudly. Maybe she had a lot going on and needed to combine eating with travel. Personally I won't eat any food down there. It's not very clean, especially the air .

I was taught its impolite to eat on the streets because its inconsiderate to others in the area who may be starving or hungry. These days theres not much evidence of that on UK streets, quite the opposite but in some parts of the world I guess that advice would still be valid.

What really irritates me are the loud idiots who show no regard for others. This is the type of culture that should be eliminated. Eating isn't a problem as long as it doesn't disturb anyone else.

I think they should ban people doing their makeup on the train and when stopped at traffic lights too.

Well you make the point exactly, it is the sign of societal breakdown if it is acceptable to eat porridge from a cup, cups are for drinking from.

This is very common practice in many countries across the globe where you can order in food.

Some of you on here really need to take your Little Britain hats off.

And last time I was on the east coast mainline we had a nice curry served up to us although I do miss their delicious sausage rolls

I don't know if it still does but the Heart of Wales Railway trains used to have snack trolleys wheeled through in summer months, from which you could buy teas, coffees, non-alcoholic canned drinks, sandwiches and packet snacks. Only ever bought a coffee once as it was almost impossible to drink whilst the train was in motion.
