Greatest song ever

I really don’t know, I would be able to narrow it down to maybe a few dozen genuine contenders but I could not definitely name THE greatest song ever written.

However, some people can but for me it depends on the mood.

Top contenders are the usual suspects, like Imagine, Bohemian Rhapsody, Bridge Over Troubled Water…

Of course it is subjective but polls consistently indicate a general consensus.

I find it an impossible task.

"Simple. It's Agadoo by Black Lace"

It may well be!

If I said Wake Me Up Before You Go Go is the greatest song ever then would that be as ridiculous?

It’s a fantastically crafted pop song that instantly evokes happiness & joy like Agadoo in a way.

It’s impossible to choose just one.

I can’t even list top 10 Bowie songs.

The first that always springs into my head so I guess it must be my truth is Hendrix's All Along The Watchtower.

Not because it's his song but because it's Dylan's and were it not for Jimi's take on it would always have been Dylan's, but even a writer of that calibre graciously admitted that Hendrix took it somewhere else and made it his own.

As a vocal performance it's OK, but as a piece of music making and pure expression through an instrument it's unparalleled.

What an impressive critique of what makes a great song.

That song tends to bring out the Cylon within me.

I can appreciate a great cover and it is the greatest cover of all, as well as Hendrix's greatest showcase of his absolute mastery of the guitar.

Many have imitated and tributed him but nobody has equalled him, in the sheer fluidity and phrasing of that solo (and the rhythm playing throughout).

Really depends on what a person likes.

I mean.

She loves you (yeah yeah yeah) is frankly the best song ever.

But a few others.

*You got the love (candy / the source)

*Like a Rolling Stone

I can’t even think. My mind is going crazy. Way too many ATG songs.

Yes, but Nikki Minaj took it to another level with the toe tapping ditty Pussy Nigga, which hit number 1 on the UK hit parade.

I don’t think it’s a ballad.

Fair play, a clear trained ear.
