Hi everyone

Are there any other mental guys like me you get up at silly o’clock to queue up and buy limited edition vinyl

I absolutely love it

Yes absolutely..remember queueing for my local record store "Off the Beaten Tracks" years ago for a specific item. Unfortunately RSD is no longer what it started out to be mainly because of the major labels rehashing stuff everyone has seen heard before. It was all about independent labels supporting independent stores and there have been some genuinely great offerings over the years BJM & Telescopes split 10" springs to mind. I have an ambivalence toward RSD now as I want to support my local record shop and will as there is still the occasional niche item/gem that piques my interest but the major label label onslaught doesn't sit well with the ethos of what RSD is about.

I’ll admit to doing it in the past.

Although the bands I’m interested in are doing the “never before released on vinyl“ scam. So won’t be buying this time round. See what the next one brings.

I’m surprised (because I love music) but RSD has never appealed to me in the slightest

I buy so much vinyl, and already have too much anyway, that RSD holds little appeal to me. This limited edition shit has never interested me anyway.

If I like something I’m going to search it out and buy it, and if you’re going to play it regularly, there’s no point buying limited edition stuff because it won’t hold its value.

I like RSD and am always eager when an artist I collect is included. In the past I've queued at silly o'clock (sometimes in freezing conditions), but more recently I've taken to turning up around 11am when the hullabaloo has died down, and with the reasonable expectation what I want will still be there or, if it isn't, there's a decent chance I'll get a copy online when surplus stock is released soon after. Seems to work and I hope I'm not tempting fate this time around!

I hope you enjoy it @_usicmanxxx and get what you want.

I get what you're saying, but I imagine most big label releases are produced in such modest numbers that it doesn't exactly produce an embarrassment of riches for them. Ultimately, it's still all about the independent record shops that are participating and I'm sure for many of them, the big label element of RSD is very nearly the difference between life and death for their business.

Prices have become ridiculous. A double lp I was interested in is £60.

That’s pretty much standard for a double LP anywhere these days
