Runaway AGI will be the last invention we make. Any other Big Things will be delivered by AGI. It may even cure cancer. We may not understand how it does it but will probably just have to accept the answer. I hope it could solve global warming also but we may well not like the answer.

Direct connectivity to the senses is the ultimate goal for electronics… No more Cinemas, televisions, speakers, monitors, game controllers or mice… The possibilities are endless, and the research is driven by the military, so it might happen.

But it’s not likely to hit the consumer, because they want us to keep buying the interfaces..

Following on from AI, the next major concept to impact the world is likely to be in the world of Biotechnology, specifically Programmable Biology:- For most of history, our health has been a matter of sheer luck, what nature itself decided - if our genes gave us a disease or made us age badly, there wasn’t much we could do other than bearing the cross and smiling.

Now we’re starting to treat DNA like a computer program we can rewrite. By 2026 we can edit genes with real precision, not just read them. That could mean wiping out illnesses like Cancer and Alzheimer’s, and even helping people stay strong and healthy to 100 so they feel more like 50. Of course, if that happens, big things in society would have to change, like when we retire and how families live together, although I seriously wonder if we have the resources to support such a future world?

Making Merc, Audi and BMW car owners sit an advanced driving test because I doubt many would pass the standard driving test if they had to take or retake it !

A law to themselves on the road.
